Frequency and voltage converter for Denon receiver

Hi All,
I have brought a Denon X2200W from US to India (Bombay). Before I buy speakers I would like test it here. The label on its rear states 120V ~ 60hz 500 Watts. From what I have researched so far, it appears a step down transformer of Maxine or Raksha should suffice. Should I be worried about the frequency i.e. 60z or do these transformers also take care of that. Would like to clarify that I cannot return the AVR nor do I want to sell it in India. I am willing to purchase a transformer if that would take care of the situation. Please advise me as I am going nuts going through various forums pursuing a solution.

You don't have to worry about the frequency and the stepdown transformers don't convert frequency. Modern electronics have their own onboard clock frequency generator and do not rely on the frequency from the mains power supply. I've been running various 110V electronics on stepdown transformers for years now and haven't had an issue with the frequency. Maxine is good. I've got an isolation transformer based one and no hum at all. I've used a Raksha which wasn't isolation based and it used to drive the electronics too, but with a very audible hum.

As I have come across articles saying that the lower frequency in India could eventually have an impact on transformer based equipment. Though not sure if a receiver has an inbuilt transformer too. Please don't mind my ignorance, as I really am not a technical person. so I guess an isolation step down transformer of Maxine should do the job. Is there any symptom which I should be vary about, once I plug in the receiver through the Maxine converter.

Dont worry about frequency,its only for moving equipment like motors.ur denon didn't have any problems with transformer.

Your receiver should power on and stay stable after you have connected through step down transformer. No other symptoms, per se. Get a Maxine 1 KVA transformer (auto) and you should be OK

I haven't seen any effects with using 110V electronics through a stepdown transformer in about 10 years of use. That's not to say there aren't any, but I am not an EE and can't easily tell if the impacts are there or whether they are too small to be noticeable.

Nothing much to worry about as long as you use a good quality stepdown and don't overload it. For more about stepdowns, isolation transformers, voltage conditioning etc. search this forum. There's plenty of good info'.

You need to ensure that the KVA rating of the transformer is sufficient to drive the device. Since you indicate a 500W rating of the Denon, a 1KVA stepdown should be more than sufficent unless you plan on connecting additional devices to it.

Thank you Calvin and jsmithe.. really helps. Moreover I have even got a response from Denon confirming your advise that 50hz-60hz is fine. Splendid.
Now time to post for advice on speakers.
