Great Tasting Vinyl

The last month has been very very hectic... too much of work... have been literally coming back home to change once in 3 days (when the undies get sticky and itchy!)... plus with a health crisis in the family, the hospital rounds too took a toll on my time... but I finally got time to unwind now... I intend making the most of it...

as I wrote out a 'warning' against a pre-owned hi-fi dealer in another section, I spun some good ole jazz, to calm me down (hence, I could write in a more civil language! lol!).

The album that was being spun then was: Ron Carter - Spanish Blue.
This album is a superb showcase of his talent... as a double bassist. Ron Carter has played the instrument in over 2500 jazz albums - all A listers of jazz.

He is also an acclaimed Cellist!

here is a track from it:

ARKANSAS / Ron Carter (Audio) - YouTube

up next is Quincy Jones - The Dude....

I've never like him much as a Jazz turmpeter... but as R&B/Smooth Jazz artist or even as a producer - brilliant! (Imagine no quincy = no MJ)...

"The Dude" is a perfect album to relax with. It has some excellent musicians on it and the sounds are smooth.... Imagine this is the album on which James Ingram got to debut his first vocals! The song is "Just Once"...

My vinyl copy is a NM condition A&M records first cut... it sounds superb! If you like smooth jazz or good smooth R&B, grab this one!

Here are a few songs from it:

JUST ONCE - QUINCY JONES E JAMES INGRAM - YouTube

and here is one of the several tracks that Patti Austin sang on this album...

Hi Amitnoida

The new pressings of Abba are remastered. I would stay away from them. If possible get the two volumes of Greatest Hits Abba on Atlantic label. You can get them cheap on ebay. The song collection is good and they appear to have been mastered from first or second generation tapes but the sound is decent

I'm putting up a list of some duplicates and records i am selling (pending moderator approval!) in the for sale section! Do check it out once it goes live :)
Once I sell these ones (mostly rock) I have a HUGE selection of oldies records that i've been meaning to compile into a sale list for over a year now. Will do that once I manage to sell the current ones.

As far as tasty vinyl, I just ordered a Beck's Sea Change on MFSL. From what i've read it's one of the best sounding vinyl in recent times. (although quite a depressing album!)

Speaking of ABBA, both my parents used to live in Sweden in the 70s when ABBA reigned supreme and they have all the ABBA's original pressing swedish vinyl! I don't think those have been spun since the 70s either. Need to get around to cleaning those!

Its been awhile since I wrote about what I'm listening to.... so here goes!

First up, Lou Rawls - Best of. Really rockin stuff! Old Skool R&B with a lot of feel!

Lou Rawls "You'll Never Find Another Love Like Mine" - YouTube

Next, Dan Fogelberg - Exile

Dan Fogelberg - Seeing You Again - YouTube

Playing currently
Wynton Marsalis (self titled debut album by what sounds like a very seasoned jazz musician, except that he is just 19 here!). I have a promo copy of this and is superb on sonics!

Wynton Marsalis??? Father Time??? Sister Cheryl - YouTube

Next Change:
Hampton Hawes - Blues for Walls

This album, I think is from the time when he experimented with the electric keyboards. Interesting... however, I like his work prior to this period... (before his incarceration for his Heroin addiction)... However, the copy that I have is Prestige 1st cut... a rare collectible... in mint condition!

Just a heads up for all the Jazz collectors...

if you don't know this, know this!

The best sounding records of Jazz from the 60s and 70s in my collection are first cuts from Prestige and Impulse!

if you see any just grab 'em!

Thank you for your time.

i have some of the artists mentioned on cd or flac or vinyl... I'm sure FM Panditji has many more as he is my own personal "smooth jazz specialist"!

For me smooth jazz is sheer poetry. You are compelled to visiualize and relate the songs name with whatz going on in the mind of the artist.

Its the soothing sounds of Bill Evans Piano tonight... Playing his "Alone Again" album! and getting ready to go out for dinner!

Seals & Crofts - Best Of... this morning, followed by The Doobie Brothers - Minute By Minute...

Heavenly!

Just finished listening to the reissue of St. Germain's Tourist. Loved this album when I firs heard it in 2003, love it just as much now!
