Hi guys,

My receivers( Onkyo 626 ) is kept in a closed box, so it is getting heated a lot. Is there some way to keep it cool like connecting a fan or so? I searched some usb fan which are used for receivers but could not find it out in our shopping sites like flipkart or amazon.

In amazon.com and ebay there are many fans but I am not sure whether it will reach me if I order it.

MULTIFAN S7, Quiet Dual 120mm USB Cooling Fan for Receiver DVR Computer Cabinets
Amazon.com: AC Infinity MULTIFAN S3, Quiet 120mm USB Fan for Receiver DVR Playstation Xbox Computer Cabinet Cooling: Computers & Accessories

If anyone of your guys has already some setup to keep it cool, please share it and it would be very helpful.

"Using receiver or amplifier into closed box without circulating fresh air around it" is supposed to heat build up inside and demise of electronics.

Best way is to use it in open. Or use separate Fans blowing from bottom up through device or sucking up at the top. But this has limitation that same hot air getting recirculated with fan and no effective cooling happens inside closed area.

I used cooler master 12V fans for my class A amplifier.

I have checked Cooler master Notepal ( The cooling pad for laptop ) keeping on top of the AVR and connected to front USB port. It is very efficient and economical. You may want to try.

Hi Sunil,

Thank you for the reply. have you connected it at the top or kept it at the bottom. I have coolmaster cooling pad, but I thought it wont be efficient to use for the receiver. I will try it out ad see how it goes.

Have kept it on top of the AVR, not permanently though.
It actually makes the Amp so cool within few minutes.

Use large frame fans sold in the electronics market. You get many sizes and are much larger and powerful than those used on most computers. However some can be noisy so you will have to look for low noise versions. Some instrument fans run directly off the mains . Do a Google search or search Ebay.in

I would recommend moving your receiver outside of the closed box to increase its life span.

Overheating could potentially decrease life of certain components or lead to failures. I have not used Onkyo AVRs myself so don't have personal experience but I have seen many posts on other global web forums where Onkyo owners have reported overheating issues. The very likely component to get affected due to overheat is its HDMI board.

If for some reason you can't move the receiver out of the closed box, the box itself should be well ventilated with at least two fans installed in a way that cool air from outside the box is sucked in and hot air from inside is pushed out in a effective way.
