Help me pick a color for the wall....

First of all, if this is not the right section, plz excuse me mods,and do the needful.

Have cladded a portion of the TV wall with natural stone tiles as can be seen from the pics below: Plz don't comment on the poor tile selection,will be taken with a heavy heart as already embarrassed with it.

There is plenty work left like glass racks and wooden channel for wires through center...but was wondering whether i should change the hall color as well at the end and go for a darker shade?? Or should i go for another lighter/hi-lighter shade?

Plz share ideas and help a poor soul.

I dunno what you were trying to achieve with the tile/stone finish (either its what you wanted or it went horribly wrong) but you definitely have to change the colour of the adjoining wall(s).

Suggest you do some tinkering @ these sites:

Just 2 sites for example, you may find others courtesy google

Personally would suggest you look @ either burgundy or magenta or teal colours, keeping the stone wall in mind.

Hope you find the right shade to match with the 'wall'

Everything from Start to Finish went wrong buddy....so in damage control mode now.:lol::lol:

Thanx a lot for the suggestions bro...will search through them.Just wondering whether such 'hard' colors would be suitable for a living hall and make it look damn small? Will it be too 'In-the-face'??

My suggestion is

1. Extend the tiling to the ceiling or paint the top portion dark
2. Paint the other walls white.
3. Get spotlights focused on the tiles

Suggest keep it simpler still ......... use the existing wall colour on to your natural stone tile section too. The tile abberation would slightly stand out even with the same colour on, and that would provide a soothing demarcation too.

My idea is use the existing wall colour. However, you may think of some other lighter shade too .......... If done properly, it could be a good VFM proposition too. Is it plastic emulsion on the wall?

Am also thinking of following Santy's advice of painting the top portion of the remaining wall dark and keeping the rest of the hall white/light.

Also planning to have a plywood header running along the length of the wall, just over it(around 12feet length and 3 inches thick, timbre veneered) that would be fixed with 3 spotlights,flaring down at the tiles/or at the dark wall above.

Or how about having some LED bias-lighting behind the TV all around, flaring light into the tiles,would that look goo as well?

The remaining work commences tomorrow morning...so plz , i need all the expert advice i could have.

Hi Imrahn,

I am also doing something similar but not tiles on the walls. I am following 3 rules
1) Same color for opposite walls.
2) Dark color for the side walls so that TV's / Projector screen's reflection won't make the room bright improving the movie/tv watching experience. Light color for front and back walls. Neutral color for ceiling to minimize reflection.
3) Color choice would be woodish or sober.

Just my thoughts.

ideally for optimum viewing you want the ceiling and the wall behind the tv a neutral colour lke grey or black. Rest of the walls can be of a lighter colour. I have mine black and rest of the walls grey............yes it will make the room smaller but depends on what you want.

That is a great feature wall, Imrahn!

Some thoughts.

Go for a light color but make sure the color is found in nature. Don't go for an artificial color. The feature wall looks very natural so you don't want to pair it with artificial colors! Some wood in its original color will also add some warmth to the room.

I'm also not sure if there were some white patches in the tiles or if it was only the photo. If so, it might enhance the look to either remove the white stuff or apply some kind of coating to the tiles to make it look even better.

And please do extend the tiles to the ceiling. It looks abrupt and unfinished right now.
