Hi All
I am NOT an audiophile and have just started building my HT system. I will be getting a Yamaha RXV475 or 575 receiver from Dubai shortly. I did some extensive auditioning today and zeroed in on Polk TSx440 and Mercury V4i with my budget constraints of FS below 40k. First impressions were that the Polks were punchier but a bit "uncontrolled" or shall I call it ragged? The Tannoys were more refined but I could discern a slight strain at higher frequencies with the bass a bit subdued. Also, my hall is fairly big and at least on paper, the Polks specifications edge out the Tannoys (higher sensitivity of 91db vs 89db of Tannoy). Would this play a key role in having enough juice to drive the speakers? Having good bass at low volumes is a prerequisite for me as I live in an apartment and I cant turn up the volume. Price wise, the Tannoys would be about 4k costlier and I am okay with that. i would also be investing in a center speaker initially.

Any thoughts on what I should go for considering future expansion of the system?

Thanks in advance,
Harsha

Before taking the plunge on the said models, would suggest you also have a look at Sonodyne 2605 FS. You should be able to audition them at Bangalore.
