Help with AV rack custom build and Cable managment

Dear Fm's

I am located in chennai and can i get any leads to build a custom AV rack as per my requirements. Please refer the two images of my current rack. It is almost perfect for me but falls short on the width required. Current rack dimensions are width 2.5 ft, Height 1.6 ft and depth of 1.4 ft. I am looking at similar rack with wheels but with a width of 3 feet that can hold 50-60 kg's as i want to place the vertex stabilizer inside the rack as well. Also Cabling is a mess. Each time i try to make it better it actually gets worse due to the fact they are all 1.5 - 2m long and placed very close to each other. Kindly advise.
Hi , I dont know if im late and if you have already built your rack. I have a acrylic and steel combo as my rack which houses my entire set up except my speakers and sub . Do take a look at it . Its easy on the eyes too.
cheers!
Anand

Looks good I haven’t built my rack yet. I will wait for one or two months and get all the valuable inputs from our fm’s and build one.If possible could you please provide the dimensions ?

the width is 50 inches and the height is 31 inches. Each of the acrylic slab is 1.5 in thick. It can easily hold upto 120 - 150 kgs.
cheers!Anand

Ok I assume this was custom built? I need 3feet(36inches) width, height 1.9feet(20inches).Instead of 4 layers 3 will be enough. And one hall with just two so I can keep the vertex stabilizer and instead of spikes heavy duty wheels. Will it be possible ?

Yes it’s custom built . It was executed from start to finish by Mr Jignesh Khatiwala . I wouldn’t Knw abt replacing spikes with wheels. I guess if they are heavy duty enough it Shld be possible but you will need to check nevertheless .
Cheers !

Ok I’ll check with him. Is he a FM or your local contact?

So finally got a local carpenter. My objective is not to build an audiophile rack which is aesthetically pleasing. Main goal was to keep my daughter away from touching or pulling my gears. For some reasons she doesn’t seemed to be attracted to the subwoofer and constantly tries to play with the avr and vertex. She keeps pulling the wires and plays with the avr knob. So I wanted to get a rack similar to the first image but with wheels. So shared the image and carpenter agreed to build one. Work started today and is in progress. Mostly tomorrow or by Friday work will be completed

If possible there could be some vents at the sides of the cabinet for keeping the components cooler. It could be done in an aesthetically pleasing way so as to not affect the overall strength of cabinet.

Back side will be completely open and the small cabinet for vertex will be completely closed

So finally done. Now I need to install pvc casing and cover the wires on the right side of the tv. Now my daughter is safe :)

What was the overall cost?
It costed 15k which is on the higher side only for a fact it was done during the pandemic and lock down. I couldn’t go out and get the materials or hire a carpenter directly. I used a local contact who deals with interior work so had to cover his fee as well. If you can get the materials and hire a carpenter directly it shouldn’t cost you more then 8-10k

Very nicely done.

Safety is prime. I remember by daughter (she is ~21 now) trying to open the AV rack when she was crawling. We keep her in the centre of the room and she'd go to the AV rack like attracted by magnet - my first Onkyo midi system had lots of backlit buttons in Red, Green, Amber and LCD VU meter. (It was the best looking system I had seen in that range)

I got my first electric shock when I poked my finger into my grandpa's valve radio ;)

Grandpa, his 3 sons, son-in-law were sitting and chatting. My dad was sitting close to the Murphy radio that was ON with Akhashwani. Me on his lap. The green magic eye was winking and saw light coming from under it and someone talking from it. slowly climbed on the table and put my finger in the holes underneath the radio to poke the one who was speaking and ⚡⚡⚡ The table saved me from getting fried.

Yes, normally these carpenters will not turn up for small works, we need to run behind them.

Iam checking locally and i can get them the materials from my friend shop, let's see.

Will update here once done

check IKEA India. You may get something ready and suitable for you or you can pick from their various modules and make one. Easy to assemble yourself. All the furniture in my house in Abu Dhabi and a good number in my India apartment (AV racks in both houses) were assembled by me and wife.

I don't think Ikea delivers to Chennai yet.
