HiMedia OWNERSHIP THREAD

Come on people , that image is not so bad. :)

That's right Kittu. But there are other really bad images specifically, "progress image" which is like aeroplane turbine! If this method had worked, we could have customized lot more.

baijuxavior, I tried the above and unfortunately it didnt work for me. After the upgrade with modified image, himedia keeps rebooting continuously. I had to revert back to the orginal firmware code to get rid of rebooting!

One catch may be that I used one of the JPG images rather than a PNG image.

Raghu

Sorry for the trouble. I edited the original image and saved it as png. But the player kept on booting just as in your case. I think it has got to do with the image properties. Let me try again.

Right now I'm experimenting with YAMJ. I was able to put a menu at the home screen for yamj. Will update once the experiment becomes a success.

For changing images everything about the image properties has to be identical
The no of colors/color depth
The size in pixels
The extension

Ill try this weekend .. but as I don't have the player some one will have to test it. So I might as well wait for +baijuxavior to successfully complete his experiment.

Can anyone comment on HD800B or will I be the first one if I go for it :)

Hi, your efforts will be greatly appreciated. My problem is that I'm not getting much time to experiment with the player as I will be home only once a week. If the TV is being used by other family members, I can't load the changed FW to test.

As kittu said, get the hd800B and be the first one experience it.

Meanwhile, has anybody tested the DLNA streaming capability of hd600? It worked for me once. What you need to do is turn on DLNA DMR in the player, give your player a name like HD600, if it is blank. Connect the player to your Windows7 using wifi or LAN. The network group should be Homegroup or workgroup. Now you will see a digital media device 'HD600' under network. Double click to install it. Now you can right click any media file in windows explorer and select the option 'Play To' > 'HD600'. You can see the media playing in the player. This worked for me just once. Later when I tried it never worked. It just shows 'Contacting media server'. I'm trying madly to get it worked. The advantage is that I can create a playlist of songs in windows media player and stream them over wifi to the player. I feel music library function of media player is very basic and would like to use the laptop to play my files.

Edit: After using the option 'play to' a message is shown 'contacting media server' and nothing happens. After some googling I found a solution.

1. Open Control Panel->Administrative Tools->Services

2. Locate the service with name 'Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service'

3. Stop the Service manually.

4. Locate the service 'UpnP Device Host'. Stop the service and start it again.

5. Start 'Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service' again.

6. Right click any media file and select 'Play To'.

Now I can stream any media file from my pc to hd600 using WMP or the explorer right click menu. Try it. It's great.

Please can someone try this pic:

I took a free image from the net and built on it. Im not sure if the resolution is good enough for the tv. there are some minor mistakes which can be corrected if this works

That is a nice design. Unfortunately, I'm not in home and can't test it. Can you adjust the resolution to 1900*1200 and the image size to below 1.2MB? The original image has a resolution of 1900x1200 and the size is around 1.2MB. When I simply added a new layer to it and saved the image as png, the size became 1.6MB, but other properies were the same. So, I think the image size should be around 1MB. Can you check image properties of the original one and adjust the new one to match the original?

Re: HiMedia HD600B or WD TV LIVE in India Pune

Took the bullet and bought HiMedia HD600C from Detna

madbullram,

Please post your review of 600C after it arrives (a week more you said?). I have decided to first buy Hi-Media player, then 2TB HDD and then buy the newer HTiB. For now will use AUX on current speakers (2.1 -> 5.1).

I am confused between 600B & 600C. My usage pattern and heart says 600C but given that 600B is a higher selling product, it gives that safe feeling (Not many can go wrong :D ). Though there is a good 1.5k difference in price.

Hi-Media 600B with Onkyo S3400 is the preference in this forum and other places and perhaps is lighter on the pocket for best experience as well.

Thanks

The shipment is delayed so its going to be one more week I guess. The reason why I went with C:

1. The nice looking controls on the 600B is of no use to me as I will use my remote control.
2. Being a no fan model, I have my reservations on the effect it will have on an internal hard disk. Heat is the one of the main factors that these equipment die, I prefer the 600C design with FAN.
3. A,B,C all have same firmware so there is no difference in media quality
4. I save 1500 rs with in built wireless option of 600C
5. USB 3.0 is not a factor for me

@deepakgang: I used the image created by you, but the player kept on rebooting. Later I created a new logo based on the existing logo and it worked. However it is not of a great quality. While creating the logo please note that the existing logo has a bit depth of 32, whereas the image you uploaded has only 24 bits. Also when saving the image as png, use the no interlace option in photoshop. Based on this we expect a great design from you. The image I used is attached below:

Edit: I tried with another picture of resolution 1280X720 and it also worked. This image is actually used for playing DLNA streaming media.

So I will try with the changes in bit depth and interlace option and get back. Would you like the bottom panel of the image to be added as - is to the design I had made?
