HiMedia OWNERSHIP THREAD

well, like I said upscaling means just streaching the content to 1080p hd , but any SD content will lack a lot of pixel which will not make it HD what ever gadget we put it

and the best upscaler is our HD TV, any latest HD LED TV automatically makes those scaling for us be it any source and again as per avsforum gurus the best scaling is let HD TV do it rather than any gadget like AVR, media player mess around with original source of video, even for high end AVR it is advisable to turn off the video procesing and send raw unprocessed video to HD TV

anyways for 900B owners: you can update latest firmware

it fixes one of my request feature, dlna not being ON after reboot, mr ollyp fixed it in this version :)

'My HTPC upscales better than Himedia900B. Colors from HTPC are more natural. - Spirovious'

The Himedia 600b (and presumably 900) has a "Deep Color" check box in the Video settings with options of 12 bit/10bit/Off. The OFF setting would be closest to natural color I guess. Also, the Digital Noise Reduction option in Video setting modifies the PQ.

the PS3 mentions it as 'converting' SD content to HD resolution, and as you said, it also involves stretching the picture as per the upscale-setting you've chosen. moreover, if this upscaling feature is turned OFF, the TV itself adjusts/processes the video for optimal viewing. however, on the himedia, neither the TV nor the 900B could do anything except to play the movie in native reso. it had lots of jaggies and pixels, which was pleasantly absent in the playback on PS3. quite surprisingly, the best PQ of DVD i found was when the 'upscaling' feature was set to OFF. looked really smooth, without much jaggies, and almost no apparent pixelation unlike those found on the 900B, and the TV itself adjusted the movie to full-screen view, as if the playback was with some kind of emulated anti-aliasing, somewhat blurry, but nonetheless pleasant to view ;)

It depends on upscaling chip.Usually TV is not the best device for upscaling.Averagely the source player (DVDP/BDP) can do a lot better, then comes AVR.Some of the AVR uses Marvel chip which is better than Anchor Bay.Some of the users of Pioneer VSX-1121-K said that upscaling makes DVD looks 80% close to Bluray movie.

I have tried both the option & found that HTPC does better job.
