HiMedia OWNERSHIP THREAD

Thanks M.

I am getting interested in it though Yamj option as described by Baiju requires some technical expertise.

Can one install and use TviX thumbnail tools in other media players such as Kaiboer H1055 (Realtek 1055 chipset)?

To get thumbnails of movies and music, you should place a jpg file of the same name as that of the movie or song. For example, if you have a movie named 'Inception.mkv', then paste a picture named 'Inception.jpg' in the same folder. For music, the player does not show album art embedded in the music file. You will need to place an image of the same name in the folder. For folder preview, the player will display the first image found in the folder. Manually downloading and pasting movie posters can be avoided using tools like 'thumbgen'. Thumbgen will scan your movie files and will download the posters for you.

hey friends :)

i just ordered one HIMEDIA HD600B from Detna.com today morning. !!! one more joining the mighty group :)

First of all Let me thank these guys Hungry_downloader, Byju and kittu :) you will know why.

First i was looking to by PBO Core media player which my friend is using. But he suggested Mede8er/playon! hd but getting it from US was an issue. called up Bangalore/chennai aqtronics for details but didnt get any response. So ended up with iOmega ScreenPlay Dx HD(1TB HDD included plus qwerty keyboard+3years warranty). i joined their forums and done intensive research and was almost about to place the order from Letsbuy. Then a user came with a reply that Dx HD dont have torrent support nor can be the hdd upgraded (i guess cant open up the box its clips /sealed ) and no alpha jump or gigabit lan. :(
So decided to do intense research on media players and was thinking of getting
xtreamer sw2 and ended up here in this forum where in another thread Byju n kittu were suggesting someone to get HI MEDIA had a look at its specification and finishing, got really impressed and i see people here giving good support helping each other.
There was this display on the Detna.com sites stokes available n its shipping from bangalaore overnight. :)
i have to say this ..the dealer Raghu is extremely supportive and well informed about the product but he still suggested me to go through this forum and read a lot(which i already was doing side by side) . well thanks guys this one i am getting has a inbuilt wifi too.
so in short what am i getting compared to iOmega screen play Dx HD
1.Torrent support
2.Gigabit LAN n USB 3.0 ready n RTL 1085DD chipset
3.On device controls
4.Hot swapable HDD that too 3.5 inch
5.Alpha jump / Apps n scripts / dedicated forum / friendly Indian fellow users support/

From Raghu i have come to know there are plans of placing an inbuilt FAN for cooling in newer versions. :)

thanks friends, but i couldnt collect the courier yet .. i was stuck and been busy with a friends hospital case.

why is this thread stuck and no discussion going on.... or is there another one where active talks happening about the player ? pls guide ..

This thread is not stuck anyway. Discussions will arise only when someone faces problems or wants more info. You can post your queries here. Himedia has dedicated chinese forum and an australian forum. For the first one you can use google translate to get some idea.

Installed a 1TB Green HDD. Enabled torrent and samba. The free torrent movie Tunnel is downloading. Lets see how fasts it gets downloaded. By the way I bought 1TB WD10EARX (2011 model, SATA 3 6Gbps) for 2780Rs. HiMedia supports the SATA 2 interface only. But SATA 3 HDDs are backward compatible.

An update to the YAMJ guide:

I have uploaded modified yamj files with the paths to be used, menu.rss for FW version 1.0.4.21, and two fsp images to replace the picasa fsp files and you can download them from here. The two YAMJ images are as follows. You can save these images and rename them to the corresponding fsp files as mentioned in the guide.

I am not sure if i am right kittu sir, as you know i have the panny 3D tv, I had downloaded the Avatar 19GB 3D Blue ray rip MKV file online and the HD600B has no issue playing them on my 3D tv. So I guess it can support 3D.

This player supports Side By Side 3D MKV.

futeko.com - HiMedia 600B

Q: Can this player play 3D SBS (side-by-side) MKVs?
A: Yes!

Just to add and clear the confusion, SBS 3D is not a player dependent 3D format, any player can play SBS 3D, try out download any SBS sample 3D file and try plating on PlayON, WD Live ... any media player. It would out put the file on a normal TV with two separate pictures side by side. Its the 3D TV that combines the two images to give you a 3D image. An SBS 3D movie is not an actual 3D movie, any 2D movie can be ripped in to 3D SBS format using Avisynth scripts and can be played on any 3D TV, so its not any achievement of the player itself.

Just my 2 paise ...... continue your discussion on the Himedia player .....

BTW, with products like Zotac Zbox Nano Plus HTPC, I dont know why we still stick to media players ..... anyway .... carry on .... :)

Sam: The reasons are very simple and basic:

1. Simplicity in using - I want my mom to my grandmom operate (they do easily with himedia)
2. Cost - at 7000 INR I have a media player that plays most formats and audio
3. Availability (in India) and no need of DIY. Helps in setting up and running within 5 mins!!!

These where the main reason I dropped my HTPC idea as it wasnt a practical family device decision.

I still will be building one but for personal use!

Green HDDs are designed to run on lower RPM, consumes less power, and low heat-up for prolonged usage.

These properties makes Green HDDs suitable for Media Players, Mini PCs etc.

In such devices, where a separate Fan cannot be provided because of their compact designs.

I bought it from Jayanagar 3rd Block, Bangalore, few IT Hardware Shops and Book stores are present. I don;t remember the name of the shop.

Yet another ownership report

Hi folks,

I finally bit the bullet and got myself a HiMedia HD600B. I ordered it on Saturday at about 6:00pm and Raghu himself delivered it the same day at 9:30pm. Beat that service!

I am using it for the past two days. Other equipments involved in the setup/testing are a Sony Bravia KLV32EX400, Cambridge Azur 540R V3, Quad 11L speakers and a Linksys WRT 610N router with USB disk/UPnP support.

Here are my quick comments observations:

- Quickly recognized my USB disk and played the movies/music/photos on my TV through HDMI without playback problems

- Calibrated this particular HDMI input for picture quality and tested dvd-quality AVI files at various resolutions (480/576i, 480/576p, 1080i, 1080p50, 1080p24). For my eyes, 480i input does the best job. Probably the TV has the better upscaler.

- Connect the unit to Cambridge using a digital-coax cable. Played some 320kbps MP3. Sounded good but slightly bright as compared to playing the same CD.

- Wifi setup was quick and easy. The unit detected my wireless network immediately. Movie playback over network stutters. Music and photos are okay.

- The player has two youtube options in its internet list: youtube and youtube XL. It was able to perform searches using the soft keyboard on youtube, but was unable to play any video. However, the player was able to play movie "Shaitan" on youtube XL without any stutter or buffering delay.

- The browser defaulted to google.co.in. But was not able to use it without a physical keyboard.

- I have also configured my Logitech Harmony 650 to operate the 600B. Still have to sync the remote and test it.

Overall initial impressions are good.

- Prasad.

its Heavy_Downloader btw :P and ur welcome :D

hey friend :) sorry for mis_spelling your nick :) and thanks a lot for the welcome got hands on it today and updated the firmware. Now filling up my hdd .

@Guru ,thanks for the details :)....could you pls remember the shop name may be by checking the bill and pm me ..so i can find some one to get one for me too :) btw when did u buy i heard there was a price hike recently ??

^^ Congratulations on your purchase. I was able to play 4GB files over wifi without stuttering. For the youtube problem, you will need to upgrade to the latet firmware, a link to which I have posted a few pages back. For google, you can press one of the colored buttons to bring up the virtual keyboard (I think it is the red one).

No doubt operative/set up easiness would always be there with a media player, but thats about it and the list of pros stops there ......

cost yes media players start from 3000, but then if cost increases, so does the performance, better and solid codec support, Full HD audio bitstreaming, polished interface, better YAMJ, and definitely far better picture quality. TPA application and features that actually works.... etc etc ...

Sam: Thats where the need comes inplace. If you need all that and the best and future proof etc, you go the HTPC route.

If you have low budget, need everyone to use, and what whats best within expectation you have media player.

Each caters to a specific need and market, so for me there is no point in thinking why someone buys media player and not HTPC. This applies to every market segment, from Car to bikes to media players!

I am happy with my Civic and my friend is extremely happy with his Nano, both of us live in the same place and travel to the same office :) (though now I car pool :) )

hi,
can someone clarify if shipped from US, which one is better option?
WD TV LIVE for $60 from Buy.com?
or HiMedia 600B for~$150 from Ebay.com?
considering features, is it justified to spend 90$(4000 rs) extra?
