Hindi Film Songs Lyrics - My Liking

For last manmy years I am trying to "understand" these lyrics

Telephone dhun mein hasne wali

mebourne machhli machalne wali

digital mein sur hai tarasha

madonna hai ya natasha

Zakir Hussain tabla tu hai kya

sona sona tera chamke roop salona

sona sona cellular phone tum to ho na

computer ko le kar brahma ne rachaya kya

telephone dhun mein hasne wali
mebourne machhli machalne wali

tum na hote to dhoop nahi hoti, rimjhim bhi na hoti

tum na hote to chand nahi hota, sapna bhi nahi sajta

tum ko pukara sansey khushboo phaila rahi meri

tumse bichhda to behti hawaye band ho gayi kyo

paani na hota, jharne na hote, ye vaadi na hoti

milta na tu to meri jaan nahi hoti, ye pyaas nahi hoti

gori nadiya apne mein har din mujhko dubana

tum na sharmana julfo mein apni khud ko chhupa lena

telephone dhun mein hasne wali
mebourne machhli machalne wali

Yash Chopra's 'films' aspire to be what Bollywood fondly terms as 'poetic'!
Still shudder when I hear that awful song

"Kabhi Kabhi Mere Dil Mein Khayal Aata Hai
Ke Jaise Tujhko Banaya Gaya Hai Mere Liye
Tu Abse Pehle Sitaron Mein Bus Rahi Thi Kahin
Tujhe Zameen Per Bulaya Gaya Hai Mere Liye"

As if creation is busy taking orders and manufacturing 'couples' for romantic liasons.
Hideous cliches,embarrasing sentiments,simpering,coy and inane lyrics.

You know after reading this post, I was silent for quite some time...lost in thought. In wonder, perhaps, I reflect now.

See, I think I have read somewhere that words uttered in love often hold meaning and appeal to only the lovers who utter them and even for them, only till the fleeting feeling of love lasts.

The small portion I have highlighted is of particular interest. What is embarrassing in love - especially between lovers? What if the sentiments are coy? And what in the world is wrong if there is simpering too!

What you forgot to mention Ajay was some of the lines that follow this one...such as:

Kabhi Kabhi Mere Dil Mein...Khayaal Aata Hai..

Ke Jaise Tu Mujhe Chaahegi Umr Bhar Yoon Hi..

Uthegi Meri Taraph Pyaar Ki Nazar Yoon Hi..

Main Jaantaa Hoon ki tu Gair hai, Magar Yoon hi,
Main Jaantaa Hoon ki tu Gair hai, Magar Yoon hi.

Kabhi Kabhi Mere Dil Mein...

The power that that refrain adds and the things it leaves unsaid - it is worth reflecting upon. In my view....

In closing I must accept that there are no doubt cloyingly familiar songs (lyrics) galore. But 'Kabhi..Kabhi' may not be one of them. In fact is a veritable gem of a classic. Whether you grade them by lyrics or by sheer musicality.

Hemant - the song you have quoted is a dubbed one! We cant really look too much for meaning with such songs :). The tune would be made for the musical characteristic of one particular language which need not work well with another.

i know
still you expect some basic meaning..:eek:hyeah::eek:hyeah::eek:hyeah:

look at roja -- Songs are great in either laungauge!

Ditto about translated songs like Tum Mile, Roop Suhana Lagta hain etc..

I somewhat agree to this. One nonsense song lyric I can think of goes something like this-

"Hum dono premi ek naya itihaas banayenge!" (Rough lyrics)

Why do people think that all world is interested in knowing their love story and they are some special? X-(

Even on sites like Facebook etc people are always talking about their love stories/break ups etc etc like others are very interested to know about it!! :p

The lyrics and music is certainly better than a lot of 'nonsense' stuff which started rearing it's ugly head in the mid 80's.Sometimes I wonder which song/film 'clicked' and took nonsense and stupidity to a whole new level, with other c-grade producers playing copy cat.

Ultimately reactions to lyrics/music vary from person to person.Sometimes we are unable to define why we like or dislike a particular song.I admire Sahir Ludhianvi for the work he did in Pyaasa. But in B'wood, the songwriter is essentially creating songs within the 'brief' and the 'scenario' provided by the director/producer.In a Guru Dutt film the degree of intellectual/emotional content is considerably higher than your average hindi film. His creations may be a little melodramatic and overly 'self destructive' at times, but they leave a cinematic impact.Pyaasa/Sahib Bibi/Kagaz Ke Phool are almost the top rung of B'wood cinema. And the music/lyrics are an integral part of their magic.
Personally I dislike the Yash Chopra/Karan Johar variety of cinema/songs.I do not find them romantic or 'love-ly'.I find all the emotions portrayed completely phony and synthetic.Silsila/Kabhi Kabhi/Dil To Pagal Hai/Veer Zaara/Kuch Kuch Hota Hai are films I saw, back in the days, when I could still sit through a B'wood film.Did not like them much then, and now I would find it impossible to spend even 10 minutes in that river of mush.Except for a short lived 'Deewar' infatuation,I have always been indifferent to the work of Amitabh Bachchan.Shahrukh was O.K. in Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa but has been too busy repeating his starry mannerisms in the rest of his films. All formula films keep repeating the 'signature style' of their star actors and directors, but in the context of good cinema,I find that stars and their mannerisms drag a film down into a quagmire, into which these films sink with a soft,s-q-u-i-s-h-y sound.Gimme Raghuvir Yadav over Amitabh/Shahrukh/Aamir anyday.

I too admire him for his excellent lyrics in movies like Pyaasa. He, Majrooh Sultanpuri, Gulzar are a few of very good lyricists. Most are idiotic though.
I too don't get "Kabhi kabhi", though I wouldn't end up calling them inane. I can watch both Raghubir Yadav's movies as well Amitabh's. :p

One of all time favourites is from a ShahRukh movie Swades. I think Swades was Shahrukh's best performance of all time. This was not one of his lovey-dovey movies. Here goes the song:

Yeh Tara Woh Tara Har Tara(2)
Dekho Jise Bhi Lage Pyara
Yeh Tara Woh Tara Har Tara
( Yeh Sab Saath Mein, Jo Hain Raat Mein
To Jagmagaya Aasman Sara )(2)
Jagmag Taare, Do Taare,
Nau Taare, Sau Taare,
Jagmag Saare
Har Tara Hai Sharara

Tumne Dekhi Hai Dhanak To, Bolo Rang Kitne Hain
Saat Rang Kahne Ko, Phir Bhi Sang Kitne Hain
Samjho Sabse Pahle To, Rang Hote Akele To
Indradhanush Banta Hi Nahin
Ek Na Hum Ho Payeh To, Anyay Se Ladne Ko
Hogi Koi Janta Hi Nahin
Phir Na Kehna Nirbal Hai Kyon Hara
Hun Hun Hun Hun Hara Tara
Yeh Tara Woh Tara Har Tara (3)
Dekho Jise Bhi Lage Pyara
Yeh Sab Saath Tara Hai Sharara

Boond-Boond Milne Se Banta Ek Dariya Hai
Boond-Boond Sagar Hai Varna Yeh Sagar Kya Hai
Samjho Is Paheli Ko, Boond Ho Akeli To
Ek Boond Jaise Kuch Bhi Nahin
Hum Auron Ko Chhodein To,
Moonh Sabse Hi Modein To
Tanha Rah Na JaYeh Dekho Hum Kahin
Kyon Na Bane Mil Ke Hum Dhaaraa
Hara Tara
Yeh Tara Woh Tara Har Tara (2)
Dekho Jise Bhi Lage Pyara
Yeh Tara Tara Hai Sharara

Jo Kisan Hal Sambhale, Dharti Sona Hi Ugayeh
Jo Gavala Gaiyan Pale, Doodh Ki Nadi Bahayeh
Jo Lohar Loha Dhale, Har Auzar Dhal Jaayeh
Mitti Jo Kumhaar Utha Le, Mitti Pyala Ban Jaayeh
Sab Yeh Roop Hain Mehnat Ke, Kuchh Karne Ki Chahat Ke
Kisi Ka Kisi Se Koi Bair Nahin
Sab Ke Ek Hi Sapne Hain, Socho To Sab Apne Hain
Koi Bhi Kisi Se Yahan Ghair Nahin
Seedhi Baat Hai Samjho Yara
Hara Tara
Yeh Tara Woh Tara Har Tara (2)
Dekho Jise Bhi Lage Pyara
Yeh Tara Tara Hai Sharara

Yeh Tara Woh Tara Har Tara (4)
Dekho Jise Bhi Lage Pyara

The best lyrics by far in recent memory are in the soundtrack of 'Gulaal'. If you have not heard the songs of 'Gulaal' then you must.

Movie: Gulaal
Song : Aarambh Hai Prachand (2009)
Singer : Piyush Mishra
Music : Piyush Mishra
Lyrics : Piyush Mishra

Aarambh hai prachand
Bolein mastakon ke jhund
Aaj jung ki ghadi ki tum guhaar do

-bigul-

Aarambh hai prachand
Bolein mastakon ke jhund
Aaj jung ki ghadi ki tum guhaar do

Aan baan shaan
Ya ki jaan ka ho daan
Aaj ek dhanush ke baan pe utaar do

Aarambh hai prachand
Bolein mastakon ke jhund
Aaj jung ki ghadi ki tum guhaar do

Aan baan shaan
Ya ki jaan ka ho daan
Aaj ek dhanush ke baan pe utaar do
Aarambh hai prachand

-bigul-

Man kare so pran de
Jo man kare so pran le
Wahi to ek sarv shaktimaan hai

Man kare so pran de
Jo man kare so pran le
Wahi to ek sarv shaktimaan hai

Krishn ki pukaar hai ye
Bhaagwat ka saar hai
Ki yuddh hi to veer ka pramaan hai

Kaurawon ki bheed ho
Ya paandavon ka neer(d) ho
Jo lad sakaa hai wohi to mahaan hai

Jeet ki hawas nahi
Kisi pe koi vash nahi
Kya zindagi hai thokaron pe maar do

Maut ant hai nahi
To maut se bhi kyun darein
Ye jaake aasmaano mein dahaad do!

Aarambh hai prachand
Bolein mastakon ke jhund
Aaj jung ki ghadi ki tum guhaar do

Aan baan shaan
Ya ki jaan ka ho daan
Aaj ek dhanush ke baan pe utaar do
Aarambh hai prachand

-bigul-

Zindagi ho prem geet
Us kavi ko aaj tum nakaar do

Bheegti maso mein aaj
Phoolti ragon mein aaj
Aag ki lapat ka tum bhaghaar do

Aarambh hai prachand
Bolein mastakon ke jhund
Aaj jung ki ghadi ki tum guhaar do

Aan baan shaan
Ya ki jaan ka ho daan
Aaj ek dhanush ke baan pe utaar do
Aarambh hai prachand
Aarambh hai prachand
Aarambh hai prachand

Palchin mein baaten chali jaati hai hai,
Palchin mein raaten chali jaati hai hai,
Reh jaata hai jo sawera wo dhoondhe,
Jalta makaan mein basera wo dhoondhe,
Jaisi bachi hai waisi ki waisi, bacha lo yeh duniya,
Apna samajh ke apno ki jaisi utha lo yeh duniya,
Chitput si baaton mein jalne lagegi, sambhalo yeh duniya,
Katpit ke raaton mein palne lagegi, sambhalo yeh duniya,
Oh ri duniya, oh ri duniya, wo kahen hai ki duniya,
Yeh itni nahi hai sitaaro se aage jahan aur bhi hai,
Yeh hum hi nahi hai, wahan aur bhi hai,
Hamari hare k baat hoti wahin hai,
Hume aitraaz nahi hai kahin bhi,
Wo aayi zamil pe sahi hai,
Magar falsafa yeh bigad jaata hai jo,
Wo kehte haiaalim yeh kehta wahan ishwar hai,
Faazil yeh kehta wahan allah hai,
Kamil yeh kahta hai,
Manzil yeh kehti tab insaan se ki,
Tumhari hai tum hi sambhalo yeh duniya,
Yeh ujde hue chand baasi charago,
Tumhare yeh kale iraado ki duniya,
Ohh ri duniya, oh ri duniya
Hoo ri duniya

Song : Tab Sheher Hamaara Sota Hai
Singer : Piyush Mishra, Swanand Kirkire
Music : Piyush Mishra
Lyrics : Piyush Mishra

Aye ek waqt ki baat bataye,
Ek waqt ki,
Jab sheher hamara so gayo tho,
Wo raat gajab ki

Aye ek waqt ki baat bataye,
Ek waqt ki,
Jab sheher hamara so gayo tho,
Wo raat gajab ki

Hey chahu aur sab ore disha se laali chaayi re,
Jugni naache chunar odhe, khoon nahayi re,
chahu aur sab ore disha se laali chaayi re,
Jugni naache chunar odhe, khoon nahayi re,
Sab oro gulaal put gayo, sab oro mein,
Heyyy sab oro gulaal put gayo, vipda chaayi re,
Jis raat gagan se khoon ki baarish aayi re,
Jis raat sheher mein khoon ki baarish aayi re,
Jis raat gagan se khoon ki baarish aayi re,
Jis raat sheher mein khoon ki baarish aayi re

Sarabor ho gayo sheher aur sarabor ho gayi dhara,
Sarabor ho gayo re jattha insaano ka bada bada,
Sabhi jagat yeh pooche tha, jab itna sab kuch ho riyo tho,
To sheher hamara kahe bhaisaab aankh mood ke so riyo tho,
To sheher yeh boliyo neend gajab ki aisi aayi re,
Jis raat gagan se khoon ki baarish aayi re,
Jis raat sheher mein khoon ki baarish aayi re- 2 times

Sanataa viraana khamoshi anjaani,
Zindagi leti hai karwate toofani,
Ghirte hai saaye ghanehre se,
Rookhe baalon ko bikhere se,
Badhte hai andhere pishaacho se,
Kaanpe hai jee unke naacho se,
Kahin pe wo jooto ki khat khat hai,
Kahin pe alawo ki chat pat hai,
Kahin pe hai jhingur ki aawazen,
Kahin pe wo nalke ki tap tap hai,
Kahin pe wo kaali si khidki hai,
Kahin wo andheri si chimni hai,
Kahin hilte pedon ka jattha hai,
Kahin kuch mundero pe rakkha hai,
Re re re..re re re re
Hoo hoo hoo hoo.
Sunsaan galli ke nukaad pe jo koi kutta,
Cheekh cheekh kar rota hai,
Jab lamp post ki gandli pilli, ghup roshni,
Mein kuch kuch sa hota hai,
Jab koi saaya khud ko thoda bacha bacha kar,
Gum saayo mein khota hai,
Jab pool ke khambho ko gaadi ka garm ujaala,
Dheeme dheeme dhota hai,
Tab sheher hamara sota hai-3 times
Hooo hooo

Jab sheher hamara sota hai, to maloom tumko,
Haan kya kya hota hai,
Idhar jaagti hai laashen,
Zinda ho murda, udhar zindagi khota hai,
Idhar cheekhti hai dahua,
Khairaati uss aspataal mein bifri si,
Aaankh mein uske agle hi pal,
Garam maas ka naram lothda hota hai,
Idhar uthi har takraaren, jismo ke jhatpat len den mein uchi si,
Udhar ghaav se riste phoonko, door guzarti aakhen dekhe rookhi si,
Lekin usko leke rang birange mailon mein gun jaayi, shoti hai,
Wo pooche hai hairaan hokar, aisa sab kuch hota hai kab,
Wo batalo to unko aisa tab tab tab tab hota hai,
Jab sheher hamara sota hai- 3 times
Hooo hoo hoo

Yeah!:)
Now let's try to find the 'diamonds' in the coal mine called B'wood!
Here's one which is pretty much flawless....color,clarity,cut and carats....

Ajay,

Absolutely love this song.
I remeber owning a cassette back in 90s which had Umrao Jaan on Side A and Bazaar on Side B.
It was my favourite and I could listen to it for hours and hours!

Thanks for reminding me just how much I loved them. Gotta hunt the CDs!

Movie: Gulaal (2009)
Song: Yaara Maula
Singer: Aushim, Rahul Ram
Music: Piyush Mishra
Lyrics: Piyush Mishra

Yaara hoo maula,
Yaara hoo maula,
Haan haan yaadon mein hai ab bhi,
Kya surila wo jahan tha,
Hamare haathon mein rangeen gubaare the,
Aur dil mein mehekta sama tha,
Yaara hoo maula..

Wo to khwabo ki thi duniya,
Wo kitabo ki thi duniya,
Saas mein the machalte hue zaljale,
Aankh mein wo suhana nasha tha,
Yaara hoo maula..

Wo zameen thi, aasmaan tha,
Hum ko lekin kya pata tha,
Hum khade the jahan par,
Ussi ke kinaare pe gehra sa andha kua tha,
Hooohoo

Phir wo aaye bheed ban kar,
Haath mein the unke khanjhar,
Bole phenko yeh kitaabe,
Aur sambhalo yeh salakhein,
Jo gehra sa kua hai, haan haan andha to nahi hai,
Iss kue mein hai khazana, kal ki duniya to yahi hai,
Kuud jao leke khanjhar , kaat daalo jo ho andar,
Tum hi kal ke ho shivaji, tum hi kal ke ho sikander,
Humne wo hi kiya jo uhone kaha,
Kyunki unki to khawahish yahi thi,
Hum nahi jaante yeh bhi kyu yeh kiya?
Kyunki unki farmaaish yahi thi,
Ab hamare laga zaayka khoon ka,
Ab batao kare to kare kya?
Nahi hai koi jo hume kuch bataye,
Batao kare to kare kya?
