for my ht :D
no serious guys 2l for sub so what to consider in diy if i like to spend that much can i make same sub with dual 18'inch drivers same as ED A7-900 subwoofer

I doubt u may not get original performance in it as it is mend to in diy like in original equipment, they r professionals and they do research got their own lab and lot of their
Engineers ,experts work on it to get performance for their expectation, for example ur profession is a builder if u are asked to build a car will u be able to do it ,if u build it too it will be looking like a car but wont have the original performance like how it is made by a veteran manufacturer,we can't do everything by googling . Its only theoretical knowledge when it comes to practical they will be having loads of doubts and even experts do mistake .
Every money is hard earned and spend it in best possible way :-)
Just another example jamo has a 12" sub ,def tech also has 12" sub with same amplifier but boths performance differ ,why I am saying this is even experts and professional also suffers, then y need of proto , trail launch and all if anyone can do anything....:-) I think no offence met and I am not a enemy of diy,
Just my 1 cent

hehe manu, seriously, this is a very very amusing quest of yours. Of course audio is subjective and all that, but are you sure you don't want to improve your main speakers before looking for that ultimate subwoofer? And seriously seriously consider the buttkicker, I believe you will enjoy it.

Link pls. That's a super deal!!

tang band w8-1363sb, 8" driver, models well in a very small cab, with jack hidley's foster plate amp. my needs were for a desktop based sub for music only. the amp is 35$. sub was 60$ on sale at PE, now its 80$. you need to strike when the iron is hot.

Hi door666 , I want to know what amp wat speakers and sub ur using pls let me know then I can prove u that ur wrong

Hi canddu,

This completely depends on who is doing it. There are things that DIY cannot do especially if it requires very expensive tools which cannot be replicated by a lone crusader. For example, you cannot make a toyota car in your home.

Speaker / amplifier / Dacs of the highest caliber can be created very easily by Diy' ers. I am talking about designs which will beat gear costing upwards of 5 or 10 lakhs in the commercial market.

Mass market hifi gear can be easily beaten even by copying already existing designs by anyone who is quite handy with the tools. It has been proven by many worthy Diy'ers.

How are you going to prove this is not possible ?

Here's my theoretical design.

Use one of these:
DIYCable.com : Intro Home Exodus Subwoofers

this is a 21" driver that costs 650$.

I will power it using this behringer ep4000. costs 380$. gives 2,400 watts RMS @ 4? in bridged mode. uls15 runs on a paltry 600w.

Total costs - 650+380 = 1030$ + wood cost. still saves a bucketful of cash and beats the crap out of not one but dual uls15s.

Not enough. Go here and see the subs people have made. and then show me a commercial guy making this kind of subs.

and dont freakin' challenge my intelligence, u dont know me that well to judge my intelligence.

Hi,

Even Lyrita Systems is a One Man DIY. Of course he is a commercial outfit but beats many a good manufacturer in that price point for the quality of audio. It just needs to be the right man with the right skills. The components are available. Just like you can assemble a PC similar would be the case with DIY.

I agree that there may be some manufacturers who spend a lot of R&D but am turned to a skeptic after hearing about stories like Lexicon and Oppo, etc. Who knows ?

mods.. this thread needs attention..
if not maybe some words from OP to calm things down..

couldnt find a post which answers the title.. 200kg shipping.. or was it the actual question?

@Canduu, I am just amazed by the speed you have become an expert in audio-video. Around 3-4 months back you were a novice, as you had mentioned in your posts and can be read from your posts also, its really amazing, Congrats!!. Can we know how did you achieve this within a span of 1 or 2 months?

Is it because you are a quick learner or something else, as I am still a novice in this. Can we know how can you easily tell the difference b/n a proven DIY and a commercial product? How many systems, both DIY(I am not talking about the speakers made using cheap drivers available in electronic shops) and branded systems have you auditioned or seen in real? What are diffrences you could find out b/n them? It would be of great help to us as we are also trying our best to become experts.

Candu and Doors, please back off. I have removed the posts and edited and kept as many posts as possible.

Cheers

I know next to nothing about subs, so I hesitate to post... but since you are open to both DIY and also importing a really heavy sub, why don't you consider importing/shipping a subwoofer DIY kit?

DIY kits are available at very reasonable prices and usually give far better quality and value for money. They will also be much easier to ship and you will run much less risk of damaging it as it will be well packaged. Plus, they usually come with all the parts and instructions, and should be quite easy for you or someone else to re-assemble.

With a quick net search, I could come up with this, for example:

Dayton RS1202K 1000 Watt Dual 12" Subwoofer Kit | Parts-Express.com

Dual 12" Dayton drivers, goes down to 27 Hz, 120 dB output

Of course, there are lots of other options as well.

Wow CANDU, I read your post(now deleted) last night that you work for a car company and so you can build a car?! I work for a bank, should try a DIY bank sometime....maybe a piggy bank lol

Wat ur talking abt@santhol , its off topic ,i was asked not to go off topic by the forum ,first thing is that u cant start a bank but I can build a car ,if ur going to start a bank I can assure u that It will end in bankrupt with in few days ,lol lets talk abt 200 kg shipping blah blah blah:-)

Car - Bank

How are you so sure that you can build a car and that his bank will go bankrupt in few days.

Are you a astrologer? Well that reminds me to ask you, which car you can build and did he say he can build a bank?

Not off topic mate. The OP is considering a DIY. Let us help him decide. If Manu, the builder can build homes, with some effort and reading, he can build a sub. Two or three iterations later, he would have got an idea of what he needs to do next.

About your post of building a car (which I am sure you are now thankful that the mods deleted), I don't know what to say to you mate. We are talking about do-able things and you say it is impossible. And then you talk about building a car on your own:clapping:. With due respect to the Tata's, with all their experience and R&D they could only build a Nano (1 lakh car???) on their own, all their other designs are inspired. You must know, you work for a car company. Think about it... if you wanna discuss, let us start a new thread in the General Lounge as you don't want to go OT here.
