a) Does LG-388 support external devices?
b) Have you switched on the power for your HDD?
c) Is the HDD formatted in FAT mode?

I think the usb ports on dvd players support only the pen drives, u cant connect a hdd to that. But I might be wrong...

LG DV 388 has challenges reading high capacity usb portable non powered drives, better to connect a powered external drive to the usb 1.1 port and it works great, also u need to ensure that the drive is formatted in fat32 , it wont read NTFS

how to format a hdd into FAT32...thx

HDD has to be formatted from FAT to NTFC.There are 2 methods,1st one can delete all DATA on HDD.If you have backup then-

step 1.connect HDD to PC via USB> Rt click HDD icon> Format> Quick format> NTSC
If you cant see NTSC opt then
step 2.Rt click my comp> manage> Device manager> Disc drive> Rtclick on ext HDD> properties> Policies> tick Optimize performance(default opti for quick removal) Now OK & follow procedure said in step 1. remember this will erase all DATA.

Step3- without loosing DATA-

connect HDD internally(I m not sure if it supports USB formating)
To convert a FAT partition to NTFS, perform the following steps.

Click Start, point to Programs, point to Accessories, and then click Command Prompt.
In the command prompt window, type: convert drive_letter: /fs:ntfs
After doing this the inbuilt utility, convert.exe will attempt to convert the drive for you.

If you do step2 (Dev manager>...>policies) you can see both Fat32 & NTFS option in format window. You need to connect HDD externally(USB) not internally.

thrs no option of fat32

Hi Buddy

I am currently running my LG 388 with WD 320 GB HDD (FAT 32 partition) without any problems. I just directly plug in the hdd . There is no requirement for any powered hub/gizmos etc :eek:hyeah: !
