can you please elaborate on what/how much difference you found between the 2 setups? were they same speakers?

It is not the same speaker. However the difference was the height is thrown from front and it is not fully effective. With Top middle it is a shorter throw and hence more effective and powerful. The mix up does really well with surround L + R and Top M L and M R.

Based on the pics I assume the speakers can be mounted as top middle or top front on the ceiling. This will be much better why not considering ? I have installed a 3.2 kg speaker so jbl should be easily mounted.

Mounting them is not a problem.
The aesthetics associated with the location is the issue per the house rules .
The ducting even at the current location is rather visible .
I will probably revisit the location when the house is due to be repainted.

Ok even though it may not be the best position i am sure your movie watching experience will be way better then 5.1. Even the regular 5.1 or 2 channel content upmixed will be amazing. Atmos and Dts-x sure to take your movie experience to the next level
