Rallynut, Thanks for your impressions Boss, now i can go sleep over my headache.

Suri, Applause, applause and a whole lot of respect added to the whole lot of it I already have for you!

Rest of HFV( that goes for me too), get down to Kannur and listen to these beauties!

hi iaudio - rallynut has been a little too kind in his choice of words - there are many things to like about W.O.E. ( more body - more laid back) - but there are things to dislike also -

so, would appreciate if you could make the trip here - and let me know what you are hearing -

i do think i will be able to iron out the faults even if it means major surgery!!!

well well well, suri you sure seem to be going great guns! congrats on the new beauts! :) will definitely make a trip one day to have a listen! they look delightfully different. and i am in total envy of your house. always wanted an old world charm house like that with a courtyard. and you've got a dog too.. sigh...

Hi,

Hey Doc that was nice read bout the WOE :) !!

,with a tiny trace of sibilance which i felt could be attributed to room reflections,as,the moment i went out in the courtyard(a good 20ft away) it dissappeared

I guess its coz of the Xover being new (I believe he got the Xover for this made from Madisound although he has used the earlier drivers ) !! So it I believe has to burn-in and settle, then Am damn sure whatever you mentioned will thing of the Past ;)!

we,as proud members of HFV,have some serious DIY talent amongst us,with the likes of soundsgreat, cranky, and suri.we are indeed proud.hats off,..lets kneel down and pay them their due,in sheer, unadulterated admiration

Well thanks but Am not sure I'd fit in Among these 2 ;) ! But always feels nice anyways !

Suri Congrats and much more on this new feather to your cap that you've add (and what a cap it is ;) !! ), Am really really looking forward to come over for an Audition !!

I will let them settle and smooth'en a bit before I come !! 150Kg a Piece,Phew that's something :ohyeah: !!

Regards.

hi soundsgreat- thanks for the comments - the sibilance could be due to the new cross-overs - i have a feeling that wide front baffle (around the tweeter) could be contributing to excess energy in that area - i might need to carve it down a bit!

i, still, cannot forget the day i listened to your speakers - the good memories linger!!

looking forward to the day when you come here and give me your inputs.

Suri its always my pleasure to communicate my happiness ;) !! Well thats what even I thought hence posted the same !

Yeah the baffle could be the reason, but I'd say don't do nothing untill and unless the Xover fully Burnt-In !!

Am waiting for the second term of your visit to have an extended session :)!

Yeah Will surely come no doubt, but like I said let have some hours on it first !

Regards.

Unleash, Yes we did have a great day and not just the evening! One full day of great music, and then trying out some variations to see how the sound changed.

To all who asked how the speakers sounded,
I am not the best person to give you an objective analysis of it. I have limited exposure to high end speakers. But I can safely say that these are one of the best that I have heard.
TBH, most of the speakers I could quote in comparison wouldnt be fair comparison. They are not in this league.
As for my own person impressions of the sound,
These Witches fill the hall and even the adjacent courtyard (mind you that is a whole lot of real estate to fill)with beautiful, 'Live' music. It has the enveloping effect. And yet its not about high volume. Moreover even if you play music through Suri's set up at high volume, it doesnt blast you in the face. It remains as sweet, pleasant, musical and composed as it was at lower volume levels.
The Imaging was excellent. I noticed this especially with good recordings like "Temptation" from Girl in The Other Room by Diana Krall. Standing in the sweet spot( Yes, you read me right, STANDING!), there was not hint of sound coming from two points/speakers, rather it felt like Diana Krall was singing about 5 feet in front of me in the centre. However, this was not felt that much when we changed the source from Cdp to my laptop.
There is very good instrument separation and that so called airiness to the sound. The speakers are bass light without the subwoofer. Coming to the subwoofer, this TL sub has got the bass just right for music. You just dont notice it unless you turn it off. It just gives the right weight to all the instruments and nothing more. It seems TL subs are the way to go!
However as with systems with better resolutions, give it a bad recording and it will shout from the roof tops that this one is a bad recording. Good for some, bad for others.

The CD player as a source remains the undisputed king in our little shoot out. The digital source is good, but you would need a very good DAC. The under 300$ Keces did a good job but not as good as the CD6002. Hence while a PC+laptop may offer unparallel flexibilty, it is not the cheapest and most easiest way to a good source( this is coming from someone who has been playing all his music from his PC for the last so many years).

I am quoting this post where I fell in love with the Scanspeak drivers, and there is a very special reason for the same....

I finally got my pair of Scan speaks, diy 2 way tower with 18w8531 mid bass and air circ tweeters.

P.S. Going through this thread always evokes fond memories.

Wonderful to see Kannur on the map ! I've been there twice this month and didn't hear a sound ! :)

Should be there in Dec or at least April next year. Most important reason....to pick up mussels ! :D

I see the place getting busier every year and also loosing more greenery due to new ugly tall buildings ! Hope they stop the destruction of the green cover. It's what makes the place so great.

Would be great to meet up with some of you when I'm there next.
Cheers.

That's a pity. Lovely place and would have been nice to see what HFV fans use there. People I know there have no interest and I can't get them to become interested either ! But a beautiful place to have music in the open. We used to have that when we were at college and music in a room never sounded quite as good as that! Room acoustics really kills a lot of the magic and electronic equalisers aren't really the answer.

Stevie, Santhoshbhai and lot of friends are missed in the forum. Hope they are doing good.
Regards.
