Laptop to Home Theatre via HDMI

Hi,
I need to connect Laptop via HDMI port & to Sony Home Theatre with 5.1 (HT) which have 2 connections Composite Cables (Red/White/Yellow)& Component (Red/Green/Blue). I tried using a cable which I had with HDMI to Component (Red/Green/Blue) but no audio on HT. I also tried a cable with 3.5 to 2 RC (Red/White) but the Audio in HT is very low but without 5.1. Please help me connecting the same.

sony ht is a waste of money.
sorry friend...you presently cannot connct from laptop hdmi output..to your sony.
check whther your sony has optical or caozx input...also your lap do have same output..
if yes select spdif output in vlc options
if no...cannot connect it.
so present is okay..from 3.5 to red and white...switch on dolby pro logic 2 fro 5 channel sound...for low sound..play in vlc..make full..also make laptop audio full...

With sony HT, Its really difficult to connect other sources to it and get true 5.1

There will be audio in option in the sony dvd player. Try to connect and use the dolby prologic to get virtual surround sound.

there is no way to get true surround sound with your sony ht as it lacks the hdmi/optical/coaxial input ports.
