Life of Pi region 5 DVD not playing on BDT-220

I recently purchased the Life Of Pi 3D BD, DVD combo from amazon.in. While the BD plays just fine the DVD refused to play on my region-free BDT-220 even after switching the DVD region code to the one on the DVD cover (region 5).

Tried region 1,2 and still no luck. The BDP just says No Disc. The DVD does play on the PC, so DVD disc damage etc does not appear to be the issue.

I've noticed this with another DVD too in the past. The one thing in common is that they are both from Excel and region coded as region 5. Anyone else seen this problem? Any work-arounds/solutions?

Try the following:

- Buy a blank dual layer DVD
- Download DVD Shrink
- Using DVD Shrink, decrypt and unlock the DVD (use "No compression" option)
- Burn the resultant image to the blank DVD
- Try playing the newly burned DVD

You may need to update the firmware of your blue ray player.

I doubt that very much. Firmware update is required only for Blu-Ray discs which have Java embedded and menus run on Java. The firmware update is usually the latest Java Runtime release. DVDs on the other hand do not have any Java or any software that requires it to run. The DVD playback is handled by the player and is universal.
