Listening Impression - Shanti's System

Couple of very interesting things that you have said. I for one am shocked at 2 things - A) You sold the dcs & B) A person of your position found it too expensive & needed the funds

Wish you all the best with your sale & that you get back to enjoying the music ASAP :)

Thanks for finally seeing the light @ the end of the tunnel w r t your current system being a HUGE HUGE HUGE Overkill for the room(hall of your house)
No dis respect meant here to you pls!

BTW, don't you think your office deserves a better set-up what with the space available to you there than @ home???? Next upgrade then @ the office too???? (Pulling your leg in good faith)

Sir,
My dCS is Sold & the TAD is Listed - what does that tell you ?
I need the Money - simple....That is why I am giving such super deals - 65 % off on the dCS [already sold & installed]
The TAD is listed @ 43/-K [see the listing] & I will sell it @ 13/-K [Super Deal] IMHO.
When funds are needed, they are needed;

My Office is for Work.
I cannot do 'serious' listening there.
Besides, the Tannoy Ellipse 8 is an excellent product; Did you get a chance to listen to it ? I like it & it serves me well.
I need to sell audio gear - not buy audio gear -

Must be something really really 'serious' then. Wish you the best! Yes, I have seen your sale ad.
That need to sell & not buy is your business, so wish you the very best in that as well.

Shanti
;)

This was a nice speaker - well made - even if it was a chinese box - but it never baked the cake for me.....
It was sold to a friend in Mumbai & then went to Amritsar - I think....
There is a pair on Demo @ Mumbai @ Dealers Place - I am sure all can go for a listen if so needed - Dalal Street - Mumbai - opp Stock Exchange - just look it up - HERMIT Audio sells GamuT in India.

GamuT never sounded right to my ears...regardless of price...sorry !

Accuphase E-550 [Int Am[] In
DAD - DAC - AX/24 [24-192 Digital to Analogue Converter] In

Shall 'post' a few pics - soon.

Sir,
My opinion on this statement is mixed.
I have very high regard for Accuphase & was very keen on it to come to India.
However, there are 2 major issues I have with it;
a]
Price / Cost
The Products are way too expensive - my Integrated Amplifier [E-550] has a suggested Retail Price in US $'s @ 12/-K or Rs. 7.5 Lacs in India.
All the Accuphase Products are just way too expensive;
b]
Sound
The Accuphase is a nice sounding product, but I feel it is just to polite & gentle.
There is no signature to Accuphase; It just plays.
Some would say that is good that it stays out of the way, but it is just too polite & gentle - almost like a SET - without the mid range 'bloom' !

Yes, It is expensive. All good things in life are expensive, sad but true.

As for your view of the 'Accuphase Signature' being polite & gentle, well that is your opinion, which differs from that of the others.

Knowing your fondness of colors, it is but obvious what your view is of the Accuphase Sound.
Maybe we shall see a 'for sale' ad of the E-550 soon then???

Looking forward to your views of your current set-up. BTW, you mentioned in another thread that you selling your beloved Martin Logan Subs, why???
Whats next on the anvil???

100 % Correct.

I will sell the E-550 soon

Also correct - the Martin Logan Depth is for sale.
I do not use a sub anymore.

I just have not started any threads - just been lazy.

If you know some one that needs a sub, do let me know.

Thanks,
Will appreciate.

Hi Denom

Even i do not like the Accuphase sound. I find it very uninvolving. So Bhagwan is not the only one. At that price i prefer the Luxman. I find it much more transparent and involving.

Having said this, the Accuphase sound is easy to fall in love with. So i can understand why so many people love it.

Bhagwan, before you sell, please visit me. You will find very different sound. After installing Mac mini, the sound is very refined. T DAC is not in the league of your dac, but your impression of Accuphase being a nice / gentle sounding amp and lacking sharpness may change. After visiting you I had observed that in my system everything sounded different - less smooth, but sharper. Your greater listening experience may throw up a different opinion, of course.

Hi Prem,

Thanks for sharing your views as well ;)

As for Luxman, another heavy weight which unfortunately have not heard save for a few old models. Keen to hear their current amps, dunno when will the opportunity present itself

Hi gerry the merry

Accuphase is a very very smooth sounding amp. It is this quality which impresses people a lot. I find the smoothness a little uninvolving. So i am surprised you are finding the presentation on the sharper side.

I just wanted to add my comments are based on listening to the Accuphase 550 and Luxman 590A, both of which are pure class A amps.

Prem, you absolutely must drop in now...L Shankar is sounding deadly. The track that you played, around the 17th minute, the percussion solo starts, and I can make out the left and right sides of the each instrument quite distinctly. All this is on the digital rig, and you must have passed this level eons ago, but your comments on improving it would be invaluable.

Regarding the (relative) sharpness, you will immediately make out the difference if you remember Bhagwan's sound, and you will immediately know why. Of course, part of it is class AB vs Class A.

Will do Gerry_the_Merry sometime next week at your convenience. I have not heard Bhagwans Accuphase. I was considering a Class A amp a few years back and auditioned the Luxman and Accuphase. Thats why i am familiar with them

sir, I beg to differ... i have heard at least 2 different Luxman's... one an integrated 2 20 watts Rms class A ( just 2 yrs old) and another - a 50 water 50 watt class A, about 10 yr old-- power amp... both were not in the same class as my class AB accuphase...

And i think you lnow me to be a person who WILL upgrade if the sound is better...
but then, diff ears... diff objectives...

In Bhagwan's case, I KNOW its a pure mismatch issue... if he can only figure it out...

So TAD & Accuphase are 'mismatched' ?
I wound not know - I have never heard any Tidal with Accuphase - except mine...
I only purchased this Accuphase 30 watter since it was the highest rated [in points] int amp in the German Press - I still think it is 'stupidly' priced @ 12K US $'s [7.25 lacs in India]

Hi Malvai

I guess thats why there are so many brands in audio. People hear very differently.

I have listened to Accuphase amplification quite extensively (in friends setup's) in the past. They did not do much for me. However as Prem mentioned "good" sound is quite subjective. I did own an Accuphase tuner though (a vintage t101) which I really loved.
Cheers,
Sid

Sir,
Both the amps were Class A - I think;;)
The CC is 50 watts Class A & the Accuphase is 30 Watts Class A.

Hi Bhagwan, I meant my accuphase class ab vs your accuphase class A. I did also mean that with CC also (which is what i referred that Prem must have listened to in your home) the sound must have been smooth. So in a nutshell, with both amps, your overall sound is very smooth and soft, so is it really about your amp ?

Try changing some cables etc... I feel that the TAD are extremely detailed with absolutely no warmth. The DAD, though i have not heard it, would be very cold and neutral too (being studio grade)... now if your cables are in the same vein, then its bound to sound like you have mentioned.

But, then it also also entirely be that the Accuphase sound just does not do it for you!

For excellent sound that won't break the bank, the 5 Star Award Winning Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 Bookshelf Speakers is the one to consider!
