Hi Friends,

Mission MS-200 subwoofer can be connected to Integrated amplifier there is only speaker level output. I use Marantz PM7005 IA. Please suggest.

Thanks,
Subbiya

Hi,

Typically you need a subwoofer which has High / Low level speaker inputs....since you dont have that....time to improvise...

Try using 2 RCA to RCA from PM7005 (Audio OUT) Recorder to the subwoofer inputs...use a good cable to avoid unnecessary hummm....try on low volumes and increase slowly....

All the best

Hi,

I don't have it with me currently but plannning to buy a sealed subwoofer so I'm considering it for audition. But I'm little bit worry about it doesn't have speaker level input.

Nope it will not connect to your Marantz. Look for a Sub with Speaker/Line level inputs. This Mission is Impossible.

How much are you getting it for? I am also looking for a budget sub to go with my receiver.

Hi,

Here in chennai, local stores person told me that Taga is not going well, he particularly specified Mission MS-200, it has enough punch for music. I dont know much reviews about Taga TSW200, but after seeing elangoas review about Taga SW 10 v2, I think I might go for that, but that too not available for audition.

Not able to decide which one to buy.

Thanks,
Subbiya

You can connect the sub. But, generally speaking, a low end sub will not be good for music. Can you try before you buy?

I did audition in profx with POlk PSW110 & 550, for me the subs seems to be good for movies, I didn't find anything musical. I have SVS SB1000 in my mind, but just thinking about it's cost.

I believe you have the Zensor 7 which goes down to 40 Hz [+/- 3 said:
dB. There's very very little music which goes lower than that.
Are you finding something lacking in the 7?

Yes, you are correct, I have Dali Z7, I believe I didn't waste my money in my first speaker purchase, it was good in both music & movies. But somehow I can't feel the punch in the music, I guess that is because it is ported one. the bass that comes from the tower are not ending....

Check out your speakers with songs having deep bass and see if you really do need to augment them.
Also, do play with speaker placement. Maybe have them closer to the wall.

You could probably find more on the net by a simple "songs with deep bass" kind of search.
IMHO, punch from a sub will be artificial and not as intended in the track. A sub with smaller floorstanders or bookshelves might make sense.

This thread might also help.

What is the size of your room?
I had Energy Veritas 2.2i (excellent largish bookshelves with same low end specs as the Z7) in my living room of 13 x 17 feet.
I had found the bass to be heavy and needed to put foam pieces in their ports.

Of course, I do understand that sound is a very personal thing :)

In my opinion With a good bookshelf or floor stander, u don't require a separate sub. for music unless you are a bass headed. I'm using Pm6005 with Dali Zensor 5, honestly I didn't felt the need for a separate sub for it.

Hmm that is interesting. Did you try different speaker positions? What do you mean by bass from towers are ending?

Although I have not heard the Zensor 7, the reviews I have read on this forum and outside have all praised its bass response. I would suggest you try out different speaker positions, furniture in room, etc to find the best the speaker response before committing on a Sub. Not that getting a Sub is bad, I myself prefer to have a sub, however, getting a Polk 110 to support the Zensor 7 would not help in my opinion.

Not really. A sub adds its flavor to every sound track. Some like it some dont. Something as simple as speaker position can alter the bass or treble.

My room size is 12*15, I tested in both sides, current position is better than previous, and I kept the speaker around 15cm away from wall.

What do you mean by bass from towers are ending?

I mean to say the bass was boomy while listening to music.

You mean I can connect the sub via recorder output from the amp. ? I spoke with a taga dealer in mumbai, he said the amp cannot be connected to the subwoofer unless the subwoofer has speaker level In/out.

Agreed on this, people taste really matters.

No, not just which side of the room but shifting them backwards and forward and sidewards also.
This is a lovely, though long, thread on speaker positioning.

Foam pieces in the ports might help. Google "foam bungs in speakers"

That absolutely correct. Look for a Sub with Line Level/Speaker level inputs at the minimum.

What HiFi in their review have mentioned that 50cm worked for them. Try pulling the speakers further away from the wall. Give them some space.

The Zensor 7s serve up a sweet, smoothly integrated sound thats easy to listen to for extended periods. Dynamic shifts are dispatched with ease, and they have no problem filling a large room with sound. As floorstanders go, theyre relatively unfussy with positioning, but wed give them a bit of space for the best results around 50cm from the wall worked for us. The midrange is the Zensors strongest point, with clear and engaging vocals and instruments that remain distinct in a cohesive soundstage. The top end shines but doesnt get harsh, giving tunes like Sbtrkts Wildfire enough space to breathe. While the bass bounds ahead (no bad thing), it can get unwieldy (not a great thing). This can compromise the snappy rhythm and timing of more complex arrangements like Radioheads 15 Step.

Thanks all for your valuable answers but still I'm confused why I can't use the sub with stereo amp.

Can you explain me how my amp will shutdown if I connect to the subwoofer. Then what is the purpose of speaker level input in the subwoofer. I even had a chat with SVS team(below), they said there wont be any issues if you connect the marantz amp with SB1000 through speaker level input. If I can connect with SB1000 then why not with Taga Sw 10 v2. ?(as another dealer suggested, it can't be connected with taga sub)

Chat
Subbiya:I have Marantz PM7005, which does not have sub out or A-B speaker output.
Brad:Thats ok. You can simply place 2 sets of speaker wire to the speaker terminals and send one to your speakers and one to your subwoofer!
Subbiya:I suspect my marantz amp will shutdown.
Brad:It wont. The subwoofer will not draw any power from the marantz amplifier.
Brad:The SB-1000 will accept a speaker level connect. It will not draw any power from the marantz amp, but instead just a signal.

Finding a good subwoofer is a huge task in HT/Stereo setup and that too with speaker level in/out it's even complicated. Velodyne subwoofers have speaker level in/out but my tower speakers can go to 40hz, so I'm expecting the sub should go below 25hz.

Thanks,
Subbiya
