Movies now on DishTV HD

Since yesterday they have increased the contrast to make picture look terribly washed out. Did some one notice? Visible on almost all scenes. Looks like watching CAMERA PRINT movies! Absolute loss of BOTH video and audio dynamic range now!!

The lack of consistent 5.1 sound on dishtv is disappointing.sometimes it is on and sometimes it is off.it is off for the majority of the time.but dishtv does have the capability to broadcast in 5.1 since i have seen a few movies on moviesnow channel with great surround sound.their website may say the they
broadcast in stereo only but off late i think they have switched on 5.1 sound
on hd channels like moviesnow, hdworld and nat geo.sad part is it is not consistent.

yes i have noticed as the subtitles are harder to read.I checked my tv settings and they are the same.the picture looks too bright.i suspect it is
like that on all channels.maybe we have to adjust settings on our tvs

I am curious as to why DishTV is including MoviesNow in only their HD package. After all it is a free channel and my local cable guy has introduced it happily as a free channel.

Cheers

That is not even included in HD pack of Rs.100. Currently available as a free preview, they want us to pay more (other than HD Pack) after 24th Feb!

I have never seen DD5.1 on Dish TV. I believe you are talking of surround "effect" instead of Dolby Digital 5.1

No matter what we adjust, as the picture details are getting lost (clipping - out of possible min and max brightness range like that of audio). This is like dynamic contrast on newer TVs which works fine in low brightness scene but may start clipping on normally good contrast ones.

Other than Dish TV and Big TV all are providing 5.1, however TS has roaming center channel sound issue

ooops, I already had Dish TV and was thinking for upgrading to HD box since the Dish is already fixed with cement on the roof.

My DishTV subscription is coming up for a renewal in a few days. I am thinking of continuing for now. After all other providers aren't giving a service worth spending a few thousand rupees for the switch.

Time for stb portability just like the mobile number portability? No Idea :-).

So sound quality wise 5.1 sound in HD channels is something which only TS offers?
No. Actually, in terms of audio, SunDirect HD has all along been the best out of all the operators. In fact, until a few days ago, SunDirect HD were the only one's to have proper DD5.1 audio on 'National Geographic HD', which is something 'Tata Sky HD' has not been able to to do till date.

PS: Sun Direct HD has SEVEN 'REAL' HD channels with True DD 5.1 audio.

do you see ghosting/(shadows/ motion trail) in movies now in sun/dish. In reliance because of this problem it is totally unwatchable,i read somewhere it is in airtel as well.

and does sun hd still has those watermarks in HD channels?

I no longer get 'Movies Now on 'Dish FraudHD' as they are now charging Rs. 100 just for this one channel in addition to the Rs. 125 charged for 'Discovery HD' and 'NG HD'. Thus, I cannot comment on the issue on Dish TV, but on SunDirect HD, I have not noticed any such ghosting/motion trail issues. Butr then again I don't watch 'Movies Now' or for that matter much of anything on SunDirect HD.

Yes, unfortuately the obnoxious watermarks are very much still there.

There has never been Ghosting issues in Movies Now on Dish HD. Ghosting happens in Times Now channel on Dish TV even in the FAKE HD channel of Times Now. ET Now is also bit affected by such phenomenon on Dish TV.

However, Sound (till I saw last on Dish HD) has EXTREME distortion in Movies Now during high volume sequence and sometimes in low volume sequence as well BASS frequencies start distorting like someone is coughing :) Hope we do not have such issue in Big HD or Sun HD.

BTW - I have not seen "Day After Tomorrow" and wish I could have seen it on Dish HD today :(

I did see ghosting in Movies Now on Dish. But, I could notice it in some movies only. Now, after the trial period is over, I am not getting this channel.
