Project #2 : Musical Fidelity X-10D Clone Tube Buffer
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is a clone of very famous Musical Fidelity X-10D buffer. I've used a couple of 6N1P tubes here.


I never experienced tube sound in my life before. As soon as I connected this in my chain, audio quality changed drastically. From this moment I came to know there's no turning back. I'm listening to them now. Loving every bit of it.

Will come up with my full review after 100 hours burn in.

@Saikat , any update on the tube buffer? how are they performing and have you got a different cabinet for them?

I bought the pcb off ebay.com. I've purchased the parts from Mouser UK.

The listening impression is simply superb. I have used the buffer for few weeks and removed it from chain to check the differences. In this case I found sound signature has changed completely. I'm not going to use big audiophile words here but with tubes in chain, it sounded very smooth to my ears. I think I am in love with tubes.

Here is my chain:

Windows PC as NAS > RPI with Moode and Hifiberry Digi+ + LPSU > Peachtree DAC-iT + LPSU > Yamaha A810's Pre Out (Analog In - acting as active pre) > MF X-10D Tube Buffer Clone > Pass AmpCamp > Monitor Audio BX2 + DIY Sub (For sub output, I've used AVR's Sub Pre out)

One more thing. Initially, I've been using an R-Core transformer for this buffer. I found some hissing noise coming out of speaker. When I switched to a generic EI-Core transformer, the noise is gone. As this buffer accepts 12-0-12v ac and the toroid I have has 15-0-15v only, I was not able to test the performance with toroids so far.

Are you powering the X10D tube buffer via a separate trafo with 0-12V 1A? How do you feel the combo of this tube buffer and LJM? Integrated amplifier lots of advantages. Superb job in the finish with the case. Where did you get the amp boards from?
