hey guys,

I recently bought a wharfedale obsidian 600 hcp from hifimart
paired it with an onkyo 809
never really played it at too high volumes, mostly stayed between -18 to -12 db
once played a track loud at +10 db

now my center channel seems to has become faulty :mad:
for the lack of a good vocab. this is the problem: "fatti awaz"
not everything certain songs at certain spots but very repeatable, so at certain frequencies it seems to be failing (fattti awaz)

what do I do?? :sos:
please help, investing so much money recently and kept it safe and away from curious prying hands, gonna have a heart attack if it goes bust so soon

Remove the front grill and tell us if there is any visible damage.
'Fatti Awaz' which occurs at a specific frequencies usually occurs due to a small tear in the speaker cone. Foam surround is second culprit.
With everything normal, such problem can occur with old recordings too that were recorded loud and saturated the tape.

if its under warranty take no risk and call them
if warranty date is over, as shivam suggested take alook by opening the unit for any possible damages idetification

Thanks for the reply guys

They are two to three months old... so definitely under warranty

the front grill is easily removable so I removed it and visually checked the cones, there was no apparent damage..

If you listen to this song it becomes very easy to notice:
Portishead Roads - YouTube
right at the beginning there are some lows where it gets really bad.

dialogue is clear not a problem.

if I play the same song using the just the right and left FS then there is no "fatti awaz"

just a thought.
there could be a chance that the AVR is not set to crossover 80-120 hz , and the center channel is not able to handle this.
( or which ever the frequency rage the centers can handle )

the problem could be something on this line.

yo yo yo yo yo
fixed it!!!!!! hurray!!!!!
I did the auddesy setup again and the problems seems to have disappeared not sure why it arose and how it got solved by doing this any idea?
should I still contact the wharfedale guys?

edit:

nope that didn't fix it.

I tried adjusting the crossover, at 150 Hz the problem seemed to be solved.
according to wharfedale's website the center channel can go down to 75 hz
so is the speaker damaged thats why this is a problem?
should I contact the distributor ?

I contacted designer audio, the distributor, he has asked me to remove the drivers from the speaker and send it to him and he will replace those...
anything I should watch out for?
any suggestions / advice?
