Dear All,

Hello and thought let me start a thread to bring together group of people who might be keen on purchasing the LG 50PK550 plasma in next few days/weeks or months. It might help people from the same city to pool and get a good deal from the dealers or even share notes about some of the dealers.

By now we have Scarlet, Vchounal and BlackPearl - 3 owners of the LG 50PK550 plasma and for them the price has ranged between 65K to 69.5K.

Few comments from the readers earlier (aka buswal)

"66k was the price quoted by ezone, ashok pillar, bangalore for LG 50pk550 yesterday.

pai quoted 61.5 K for pk550 , and they said delivery will take two days. girias quoted 64k. They said it will take more than one week to get them. It indicates that lot of leg room is available for negotiation for this model."

Thanks,
Vivek Nath

61.5K is good. Devi International may give it for 60K.

I am going to probably wait for couple of weeks(or a month). And I am still confused between the C550 and PK550. So I am basically waiting for a proper comparison between the two.

How you guys zeroed into PK550?
VFM or PQ?
Where you able to do a side-by-side comparison of the two sets?

If I am not wrong the C550 will cost around 69K. A difference of ~7K.
Also @HDFREAK in another thread has noted that Samsung is going to official unveil its Plasma range on 15-Jun and it is likely to be accompanied with promotional offers. That may bring down the difference.

Well looks like we too might see the wait till end of June. I have been calling dealers and no one seem to have even the LG model, let alone Samsung C550.
And the prices for the LG are lowest at Devi , Jayanagar at 63K, but he will have no stock till 15th June.

So any case we might see the Samung offers and then make the decision.

And I have not been able to make a comparison for the lack of available models in same dealer

I had a look at the LG 50PK550 plasma at E-Zone Chennai (OMR) last evening. They had all the new models on display - 50PK550, 42PJ650 and 42PJ560. The only one they did not have was the entry level model - PJ350.

The PJ560 has vertical side speakers (attached to the frame) and apparently has better sound. It said 500W PMPO on the label. The others have a standard 1-way 2-speaker system at the bottom of the frame. This is what the sales guy said and it seems to match with the specs on the website too.

Anyway the 50PK550 was mounted right next to last year's entry level model 50PQ30, and after putting both at the exact same settings, I found the 50PK550 to be better in terms of blacks and colour reproduction. National Geographic HD was playing (thru Sun Direct HD). There were 2 42 inch plasmas below these, which were mounted in the top row. I asked the sales guy to turn off the 42-inchers at the bottom, as well as the other LCD and LED TVs to the right of the 50PK550.

I was very much satisfied with the 50PK550 and I feel it's a fantastic plasma for the money. It was on sale for 67k and my dealer quoted his best price as 62k. So for 62k, this full HD plasma is just fully worth it and incredible value. USB port is on the left side and it plays DivX though I am not sure about HD Divx. The only thing this tv does not have is bluetooth, which my 42PQ70 has. But overall, I had a good comparison between the 50PQ30 and 50PK550 and the PK550 is definitely better.

I have more or less decided on this model for our hall area in our apartment.

I look forward to joining this PK550 owners' club soon !!

well, even I was confused. It will be more confusing now since heard about panasonic 42V20.

Budget was around 60-65k so whosoever fits around that level with best PQ

LG 42LH90 , LG 50CK550, Samsung 50C550, Panasonic 42V20 .... all confusing me now

I was almost inclined towards LG but panny is attractive now.

I went to hindu metro plus life expo at nandampakkam, they had on display samsung 550 and lg pk 550 and panny u series. The price quoted was 64 for LG and 70 k for sammy.

BTW I went to panny brand shop and the model u20 - 50 inches the price quoted was 90 k (after negotiation) and it was awesome. the pq of panny was miles ahead of lg pk550 and sammy c550.

I am in game to go for for a 50 inches plasma at the earliest.

cheers

Personally I would forego the Panasonic 42V20 and go in for the Samsung 50C550. The overall gain from the 50" size will over ride any picture quality benefits of the 42" V20. The Panasonic plamas, specially the higher end series are a total rip off in terms of pricing in India. I have a feeling they do it, just to allow 'Alpha Radio' to stay in business.

PS: Alpha Radio is a parallel importer of Panasonic Plasmas and in fact until a couple of years ago, they used to sell more Panasonic plasmas, than Panasonic India themselves.

I had a look at LG PK550 50" model today in Croma, Bangalore. It was kept right next to a LG LED TV (forgot the model number). What I noticed was that the brightness on the LED was much higher. They were both playing the same content and even when I set the brightness to 100 on the plasma, it was still noticeably duller than the LED. And plasma was looking totally washed out at that setting. Is it normal? The price quoted was 72k with PS2 and 70k without it.
PS - The ECO mode was set to OFF.

I had skipped V20 for its price. But seeing the snapshots from Nanu (got-home-42v20) I must admit I am tempted :p

My apologies if I was meant to be the hijacker :)
I would restrain myself from posting until I also zero-in on PK550.

In the mean time, if would be helpful if you guys put in your reason behind the purchase before you buy. The reason for this request it that I do not get a chance to audition any Plasmas here in my place(Udupi, K'taka). As said before I am confused between the options I have. Once I also align with you on Pk550, I will contact you group. I am willing to come to Blore and buy it. Thank you.

@Dotmac...well hijacking would be little harsh word considering the times we live in :ohyeah:

But the intent was/is to just make some numbers on the people who can pool up and pick the 50PK550, though the availability still seems to be sketchy in most dealers/ showrooms.

The few reasons I could think of, for narrowing to this model

1. It has been demoed/ seen and purchased by few of our forum mates and they have given good reviews so far

2. VFM - pricing between 61.5K to 69K , as per dealers and people who have bought it. Might get more sweeter dealer if we can have 3-4 people looking to buy at same time

3. Features wise it gives me all that I am looking for , in terms of SD, HD or gaming

4. Haven't been able to see the Samsung c550 and panny seems to be out of budget any how, for the same size

Well just my thoughts and more as we go along....so well happy purchasing soon enough :D

Haven't seen both pk550 and c550. From the reviews avaiable in this forum as well as other internet forums, LG50PK550 seems to be VFM. I am hoping to see them before I jump in. Looks like both will be available in Trivandrum by next week.

I wanted to buy before worldcup:sad:

@Vivek,
Please provide the contact details of the respective dealers and names.
I am planning to buy PK550 by tomorrow.
It would be of great help.
Thanks.

Well, the purpose of the thread seems to be hitting the right note. Last count, I can see 4 people who are keen on picking this TV (in Bangalore). Though the availability of the model with dealers is still shaky :)

Sure hope we can purchase together and get a sweet deal.

This is a repeat of my earlier post about LG PK550 since I didn't get any response on that one and I am really curious to know.

A beautiful, well-constructed speaker with class-leading soundstage, imaging and bass that is fast, deep, and precise.
