This is a repeat of my earlier post about LG PK550 since I didn't get any response on that one and I am really curious to know.
I had a look at LG PK550 50" model today in Croma, Bangalore. It was kept right next to a LG LED TV (forgot the model number). What I noticed was that the brightness on the LED was much higher. They were both playing the same content and even when I set the brightness to 100 on the plasma, it was still noticeably duller than the LED. And plasma was looking totally washed out at that setting. Is it normal? The price quoted was 72k with PS2 and 70k without it.
PS - The ECO mode was set to OFF.
Bansal, sorry my earlier response got wiped out as the power failed just after I finished typing!
Well what I wanted to say was, that a showroom is the worst place to demo a plasma. LCDs and LEDs are always much brighter. However, if you look at overall picture quality and natural skin tones, colour reproduction etc, plasmas are the winners.
As I had posted on another thread, I recently had a demo on the PK550 at E-Zone here in Chennai. The picture quality was superb to say the least.
Compare plasmas only with other plasmas. If you compare plasmas with LED/LCD TVs, you would be disappointed. Another thing is, in the home viewing environment, plasmas perform well. No home would be as brightly lit as a showroom, and hence the plasmas perform well at home.
See if you can check out the PK550 isolating the other LCD/LED TVs nearby. This is what I did when I went to E-Zone on Friday evening. I asked the sales guy to turn off the LG and Samsung LCD/LED TVs nearby for 5 mins so that I could concentrate only on the plasma. The PK550 was mounted right next to last year's 50PQ30, and in the bottom row, there was a 42PQ70 and 42PJ560. All the plasmas were set to factory default settings and then I compared by watching National Geographic HD on Sun Direct HD. Picture quality on the 50PK550 was very good, and I saw an improvement over the 50PQ30 which was right next to it at the same settings.
The colour reproduction and black levels on the 50PK550 are definitely improved compared to last year's LG plasma range. Not sure how it would compare with the Samsung 50C550 though. Either one could be better, or they could be almost the same in terms of picture quality.
