Problem in New Pro-ject TT

The arm skidding from the edge to inner groove would suggest that the tracking weight is inadequate. You have said that you've gone through the tracking weight setting process. Can you write down the steps you followed (as detailed as possible, please)? Include how you balance the arm, zeroed the antiskate, set the tracking weight, and set the antiskate.

Others have suggested that the stylus might have been dislodged. A simple way of checking whether the stylus is still in place or gone is to lightly rub the stylus on the soft skin of the back of your hand. If the stylus is intact you should feel a pinch on your skin because the stylus is a very pointy diamond. "Lightly" is the operative word here. Of course you should first shine a torch on the stylus for a visual examination. Get a kid with normal vision to do the examination if you're wearing glasses. From the photograph attached in the first post, the stylus does look normal.

Another thing to check: the cantilever suspension could also fail. If you manually drop the needle on the record surface with the record being stationary, check if the cantilever (the tiny aluminium stick/rod that sticks out from below the cartridge body) makes the arm spring back (up) slightly. If the suspension has failed, the cantilever will touch or nearly touch the lower surface of the cartridge body when you drop the needle on the record surface. If the suspension is normal the cantilever will be at an acute angle to the lower surface of the cartridge body, and not flush.

and on an honest note, you are getting all of us to shoot in the dark, this debate will just go on and on, it would be great if you can share some good resolution pictures (of the stylus, tonearm, etc) and better still a video. that will aid the correct diagnosis.

If your records played before this then there's only one explanation. Your diamond tip on the stylus has come off. Skating directly to end of record is a symptom of this. Your other settings cannot change suddenly in the middle, it's highly unlikely. The only other thing could be your antiskating weight has dropped off the tonearm or from its loop.

Regards

This is a very good important suggestion. Hope the OP with do accordingly.
