Projector Issues

why not considering casio?
appearntly it introduced some new technology with very long lamp life

Products - CASIO Projectors
First of all, selecting a projector, especially for a Home Theater, is not just about lamp life. In fact, lamp life is generally one of the last things taken into consideration and that too only if the lamp life is drastically greater and that too only if the extra lamp life is not at the expense of the more important picture characteristics, such as lumen output, contrast, color accuracy, sharpness etc.

Secondly, there is nothing new about LEDs being used as a light source instead of the conventional mercury lamps and it is certainly not something that Casio has invented, nor are they the first or the only one's to use it in their projectors.

Finally and most importantly, Casio only makes data grade XGA (1024768 | 4:3 aspect ratio) & WXGA (1280800 | 16:10 aspect ratio) projectors, that are targetted primarily at the 'portable' and 'conference room' market. By the way, even for that market, there are far better projectors than those from Casio. Bottom line, none of their projectors are 'appropriate' for a Home Theater.

Please refer to my earlier post in this thread regarding LED lit projectors. --> http://www.hifivision.com/home-theatre-projectors-screens/14071-projetor-lamp-3.html#post195907

Reliable Online Buying Store

Well i am ready since yesterday evening to order the projector online but i am not able to source the right and reliable medium who can take care of customs duty and other charges too.

For example 20north, there are several complains about they not handling things correctly while shopyourworld.com, there are not many members who have dealt with them and moreover they are newly being heard on this forum, though one of the member has told me that he has had many good experience with them, but i will be more at ease if more people can confirm on this. i would like to trade with some online store who has a proven reliable track record for a long time.

Bordelinx

Hello Sud,

Well i salute you for such a good serving of cost break up and most importantly you are confirming that you leading members have had good experience in dealing with borderlinx, i am very happy with these vital informations. The taxes which you are referring, is that octri and vat?

I do not have a citibank credit card, i am having of icici bank.

For example if i have a friend in Banglore, if i use his bordelinx account for this purchase, can the delivery come directly to me in Mumbai, instead of it going to Banglore. One more question can i make the payment by my icici credit card on behalf of the banglore friend?

If any other advice etc by you and others then please do tell guide me.

On the other hand subhash had given me some contact to take the quote for projector but he is not able to offer so probably this source is out of race.

No! for the both questions to Sud!! Borderlinx will accept only citibank credit card/ It will be delivered to the credit card holder address..

I have sent some request to some reputed ebay vendors if they could ship to India and if so what will be the shipping cost>> I am yet to get reply from those vendors..

Vinay, I bought my projector from visualapex and found their dealings to be good. But projector point is $100 less and they are good too. Since you don't have citi card suggest you Wait till evening for better deals if not buy it and ship to Bangalore members addres:). From Bangalore the projector can be made to reach you next day in its original packing. So no issue apart from one more day delay and another Rs.1500 towards shipping.

Borderlinx costs usually are close to what their tool estimates. So Sudhir's costing info will give you a rough idea of your shipped cost.

hi vinay

i did speak to him ,he's more into getting only the optoma projectors so i guess he's out

shipping via borderlinx shud be quiet a good option as suggested by sud

to use border linx u need a citibank card

This is how it works

After u make the payment for the PJ (via your credit card/wire transfer/frnd in US pays for it)

Request PJ company to ship the PJ to your borderlinx Adress (Ohio ,US)
U need to have registered with Borderlinx

Once your unit reaches Border linx ,u will be intimated ,and after charging customs duty and shipping on to your card the item will be shipped to the card holders address (only) via DHL

well vinay, if u dont have the citi card , u cud as well use one of your frnds for using the border linx facility (thats what i did ):)

Ebay

Well sri, thanks so much for the writing on borderlinx.

It is a good way out that you have written to some reputed ebay vendors, but the only major problem is that i will have to go to the airport to clear the projector and this is very painful. Is their some way out that i get the projector delivered to my house with paid duty and taxes? This 20north and shopyourworld has this facility.

However can you provide me some link of the reputed ebay vendors, i will pay via my debit card or Internet banking, there will be some proforma invoice from them? Few more clarifications later.

I appreciate a lot the time which you are putting in for me that the projector gets finalized today.

Generally interested ebay vendors will ship their item thru DHL or USPS /In both cases it will be delivered to your house directly and DHL person/ Postman is going to collect the duty charged respectively...

Only if your friend is carrying it you have to go to airport to collect it;)

Only one 2 vendors i have come across who can ship the item directly to India and still they have not indicated the prices since it is night time in USA..Hope to get the same by today evening.

Regards

Fantastic work Srini.

We can wait for inputs to flow.
We have until tomorrow morning 9am before black Friday ends. To be on safer side close this by midnight Indian time.

Final Boarding?

To : Santosh, Sri, Sud, Subhash

Well before i am fired down with so many posts, i leave the ball in you people's court.

The game is you 4 guys decide from whom i should buy and allow me the opportunity to use your borderlinx facility or alternatively if ebay works out then fine. I am ready to pay the money right away, but with a plan.

With this thread going, i too am tempted for an upgrade (holding this back for quiet a while)
And going by the reviews of the Epson 8350 it looks a cool deal and its almost as good as the Pana 4000 ,minus a few features
