Projector Issues

What i feel is as long as it is in the right spirit and we understand it is not intentional it should not bother anyone. As everyone is here to learn and share and this is also a part of that learning...

Greed

Well very true, when greed level increases of the local stores for a bulb of Rs.40,000/-, there is birth of foreign online stores.

V.

You could buy a HD-65 projector, screen, and a garland and a bottle of scotch to celebrate your purchase for this price if you chose to import!:ohyeah:

Good Advertisements - Forum

Hello Santosh,

I appreciate your explaining me how the advertisements work.

With these type of brilliant advertisements and forums, the benefit is very large for buyers etc but sadly main beneficiaries are people in metro cites who are more surfing savvy, the game is clear, more you research larger the results, there are so many people who will avoid doing a good research but just go to a leading store and buy the product.

V.

Vinay, I think it is google-ads that is intelligently posting relevant ads. Since hifivision have added google ad-sense to the site, google posts the apt advertisements for that forum or even section. Google scans the page dynamically and when it finds the word "projector", it places an advertisement of a company which specialises in projectors. Sometimes Visualapex, sometimes projectorcentral etc.

The model works something like below:
For Eg: XYZ, a projector sales company want maximum mileage from their marketing spend. They buy google's ad services, which intelligently places the ads in all the right places. According to Google's research (web monitoring tools) they find that it makes sense to have a XYZ ad on hifivision. Google tools also make decisions that there is no point for a projector company to advertise in a forum meant for cooking:). Google even advertises intellignetly based on sections in the forum - like ads from speaker companys in speaker section etc. Google shares portion of its earnings from all its ads with hifivision and everyone is happy everafter:).

Improvise

Hello Sanjay,

Well everyone is lacking some where or the other, we all have to try and improvise.

In my case i have studied only till 8th standard, that too a drop out, even today i make so many spelling mistakes, but i cover them up with spelling checks.

Shudder

Hello Santosh,

Well no one can be a expert, the only thing is that we need to improvise our knowledge and risk taking abilities.

Please be assured it is a myth that investing in mutual funds is risky, it is just that one needs a good adviser who can track the portfolio in all aspects, and if one wants to learn, it is not difficult. On the other hand if you will see us doing day trading, then not only will you shudder, it will be a lot more worst, the game is such that daily you have to loose or win, and these are huge monies, take the case of today, i just now finished loosing Rs.23,000/-., many a times this game lasts for 14 hours a day and you have to stay put, but yes you can go auto pilot by setting commands.

V.

[Vinay is an expert in his domain - Mutual Funds/Stocks etc while I shudder at the thought of investing in securities.

Tracking My New Projector

Well upon tracking, i am adviced that my projector has reached from global merchant to global hub.

Top Ten

Well i need to share a thought with members, when sanjay suggested me epson 8350, i took this suggestion very seriously after all he has very good knowledge based on his assorted writings.

Sri, had given me a link, about top 10 projectors, out of which this 8350 was in number one position, with such a dynamic visa, i took a final call that i will go for this 8350. I remember when i needed to buy my audio video gear, i took the help from a leading magazine editor, and in those days i never knew about the forum.

It excites me a lot that from the day i have ordered this projector, every day so many times on this forum i see the same model 8350 being advertised.

Yes Vinay!! For selecting Projectors we can rely on these selective websites and they make a detailed review and also post/shoot comparison between various models in the same segment which will be very helpful on deciding.

When I made the first purchase of my 480P-Benq 5120 Review: BenQ PE5120 in year 2004 i relied on this website review and bought it. That time I bought it from Dubai and the old horse is still running for me faithfully.

In year dec,2007 I bought my Mits 4900 Mitsubishi HC4900 Projector Review from USA based on the reviews from this site and as very well know still i am having that.Initially i had some on/off issues which was discussed very well in the avs forum and it was vanished once the projector is settled(break-in period).

To decide upon we can rely on these websites and for trouble shooting if any later we have to rely on the AVS forum.. :)

Trust Selective Websites To Take A Call

Hello Sri,

Thanks for the informative post.

I am happy to hear that you are confirming that in order to take a call it is better to trust a individual who has got good knoweldge and has no personal interest and take the confirmation from selective websites rather then depending upon the local stores, who themselves are likely to have extremely low knowledge and they are heavily biased to brands they carry, and often they will say all other brands are not good etc.

Wow you are quite ahead of your time, 2004 a first projector, very interesting, so there were things like 480P, so now you are using this for?

It is quite a tip that with certain forums we can extensively raise our queries, and have them often settled too. I have had two or three issues with my projector, and these guys come from the local store, try here and there, hardly solve the issue, take the money and just go, visit charges Rs.1,000/-, as though money grows elsewhere with ease.

Hello Vinay,
In ProjectorCentral site, two people have reported complaint of pink purple glow in Epson Powerlite display. Doesn't this makes you nervous? You will not have the option of sending it back for replacement if you see any such problem.

You have a very valid concern rshri but that is how electronics are. Either they fail in a short while or work forever. Am sure Vinay has thought about all this and then only taken the plunge. The AV hobby in general and importing electronics in particular is not for the faint hearted :).

BTW Vinay, when are you receiving your projector?

In buying stuff abroad , there is always an element of risk, that is why once goes through several reviews and forums, before deciding what product to buy. But it is not necessary that the set you buy is faulty. As thousands of pieces are sold, and only few exhibit fault which come to light, unless its a major bug or a firmware issue which gets highlighted and spreads very fast.

So i feel Vinay has taken the call considering all these things in mind. Personally when i got m y HD20 from US i had also done the home work before buying the same. One advantage buying from abroad is usually in PJ's the pricing back home will be double or at times even more of what you will end up paying there.

Yes Vinay, Yes i am sure i rely on these websites and trust the Forum reviews in full.I never rely on the dealer, however i never happen to get that chance to hear the stories except for TV's now i am hunting in store, since almost most of my purchase were online..

Now the 480P projector used by me for my rarely conducted training class in my office /mostly used by my relatives & friends for their family gathering function for just showing their photo collection and video taken by them.

The Power Of Forum Members

Well this is the power of forum members, how such vital news is bought to the notice.

I had not seen this purple issue, surely i am now nervous. If such a thing happens with me too then i may get an opportunity to send the projector to America with some of our contacts, but it is going to be very difficult. I think some member had given me a hint that if there is any issue with the projector then within 24 hours, we have the opportunity to return it to SYW, so they can send it to the seller.

SYW Heading For A Delay

Well santosh i have not done a deep thinking if something goes wrong, at the best i had though about getting the delivery late or partial damage, but it seems now i will have to gear up more for ad verses if any.

It is already 7 working days that i have made the payment to SYW, and they are supposed to deliver it to me in 12 working days, but i have been following up with them since Friday, and their replies are not satisfactory, they are saying that the global seller has not provided them the shipment details which means that the projector is still not received at the global hub of SYW in America, they further say that the global seller had said them that they will deliver in 6 working days the projector to their hub, so i can expect the delivery in 20 days instead of 12 days, if this happens then image of SYW, is at stake, like in case of 20north.

Risk Management

Hello Dushie,

In my case i am completely raw in importing goods from online stores but with help of forum members i have taken this import step and i am hoping that i will not have problems with the function of projector as it is being rated a number one buy by leading reviewer. On the other had our family has been in business of export and import for decades but i never got into personal import of electronic and other goods.

Among the risk management which i took was that got to hear good words about SYW, a forum member has transacted with them for about 20 times, and never they had any problem and there are 2 other members who have also had good experience with them but one of the member has had bad experience. While i saw to it that the projector was ordered from the seller from whom santosh had bought his projector.

Forum Reviews

Hello Sri,

You are putting your old projector to a great use, but i must say again, you are way ahead of time, in 2004, hardly anyone used a projector.

It is very true that it is much better to trust the forum reviews then a dealer who very often will not know much about the product.

Will this projector require voltage converter? If yes, have you already purchased one? You need to have it ready at hand when the projeactor is delivered...

Hi Vinay,

Guess we all have our first times and good and bad experiences, we all are here with you, hoping all goes well. With the update given by you on SYW that they have yet not received the PJ at the global hub is worrying. Please keep an active watch and track on the same. Hopefully you will get the same but with a delay, the way things are currently trending out to be.

Vinay,

Dont worry about the purple issue as of now till you get the PJ in hand , also dont worry about the delay in delivering. Know you will be excited still sometime it is common in online ordering which is unexpected.
