Hi,

I auditioned bookshelves and towers in Mumbai over last 2 days. I am still deciding between bookshelves and towers.

Bookshelves (Cambridge Audio Amp)

1. Quad 11L - 35k
2. Tannoy DC-6 - 40k
3. Paradigm mini monitors - 32k
4. Monitor Audio - RX2 -55k
5. Monitor Audio BX2 - 32k
6. B&W 685- 49k
7. PSB Image B6- 27k

Towers

1. Monitor Audio RX6 - 77k
2. PSB Image T6 - 77k
3. B&W 684- 90k

I have shortlisted Moitor Audio and PSB's for both types (unable to decide). Which AV receiver which goes well for MA's RX6 and BX2 and PSB Image B6 & T6. ?

The standard Denon, Arcam, NAD, Yamaha, etc. should go well with either brands. If you later upgrade, use the AVR as your pre- and get a separate power amp. Both the brands will shine even further with a separate power amp.

Thanks, I am going to get a stereo system to start with ? How is Marantz PM6004 combination with MA BX2 ? Is the amp a bit under powered ?

I am yet to receive my equipment have ordered the same. Will update once I test it. Also what is the best way to connect my pc to the onkyo to stream mp3's on my pc. What cables should I use to connect the receiver to speakers ?

Depends on what soundcard your PC has? If its good quality like Asus Xonar then analog (red + white cables) should be good. Else, a digital (coaxial or optical) from PC to AVR to speakers.

But AVR will not sound very good for music (don't know about this particular Onkyo model) so better if you introduce a good DAC in the middle. PC > DAC > AVR... and also use AVR in stereo/pure direct mode/DVD direct mode for best results.

Finally, if you are spending so much then its better to improve the quality of your music. Upgrade from mp3s to FLAC rips or CDs.

thanks for the advice, but the avr will have an inbuilt DAC wouldn't that be sufficient

For excellent sound that won't break the bank, the 5 Star Award Winning Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 Bookshelf Speakers is the one to consider!
