Hi,
I purchased a Samsung LED TV in march 2012.It's a 55"LED model UA55D8000.It cost me 1,90,000 Rs.Now the mother board in the TV is damaged and the TV is dead. The samsung service people said it will cost me 10,000 Rs and they have to place an order for it.I agreed for that and gave 5,000 Rs as advance. After a few days I got a call saying that,Samsung stopped manufacturing these boards and the TV cannot be repaired.Imagine my shock when I got the news.I never imagined that I may have to lose my high end TV within 4 years. Is this the fate of every high end Samsung TV user after 4 or 5 years?

The Samsung service people gave an option of buying back the TV for a mere 20% of what I initially paid.I refused that and said I am not giving my TV back and i want my TV repaired at any cost. They did not care and cancelled my service order. What are my options now? I don't want to give my TV back to Samsung. Is there any other way I can get the mother board for 55D8000 series?Did anybody face a similar problem? If there are any experts, please help.Thank you.

Hi,

There is I believe another FM who is facing almost the same challenge as you...in his case it's the panel.

Nowadays the sad fact is that almost all TV manufactures are competing with each other...end of the day it's business for them...these TVs are made with cheap parts and hence after 3-5 years which is the average life span, we start seeing issues cropping up unlike the good old CRT TVs which lasted easily for 10-15 years and even more.

Best advice is go for a new one which meets the connectivity, your requirements and after sales service...no point spending so much on high end TVs if their lifespan is limited and models keep changing...

All the best!

Check olx, quikr or local repair shop if you can source similar motherboard from other broken tv (panel issue).
55" being bit rare before 4 years (due to high cost) you will need to keep patience and search a lot. 40" would have been much easier to find.

Sorry for your loss buddy.. Me too facing a different issue with Sony TV, but my TV is not as expensive as yours..

If the panel is perfectly working, 20% money back is really bad..

Even if the original spare is not aval, there should be motherboards of sucessor models which may not have high end features like the original one.. Try to check with Samsung if they can fit in any other equivalent mother board..

With the release of all 4K, Curved etc companies are not bothered about the previous generation TVs. Spending almost 2L and not getting any service support is ridiculous. They should atleast have a decent buyback option, not just 20% of the TV cost.

I agree with the latest set of TVs - these guys do not have any concept of replacing parts and make it work.
I have had BPL CRT TVs and they have worked for 15+ years and whenever issues were there servicing was done by BPL at cost effective manner

I am also currently facing issue with my Samsung LCD 46 inch. It is 2009 model, and now lines are appearing and brightness has reduced. When Samsung representative visited - he checked and told that TCON has gone, and it has be replaced. He also said that that is not available now a days and if had to be ordered and get it - it will cost 80% of the TV value. He recommended me to either check with any local guy who can probably do it for lot cheaper rate like 10K, or go for new TV.

At this stage - since it is anyway 7 year tv, I am more looking for a new TV

Look for local solutions as well. I have seen local AV experts who could fix mother board issues at chip level, without making a hole in your pocket. I am sure you will be able to get details about local experts once you start exploring that path. Start from nearby local TV/CD repairing shop

Hi,

I would agree, it seems the local repairers would be better placed in checking and resolving....

Thank you. Will try that route also.

There may be one way that you can write to Samsung India(Head office) and ask them to repair the TV saying you were ready to pay service. They should not deny.If they do,you can tell them that you will complain consumer forum for refusing repair.
They may give some kind of offer.

1) There are specific websites like Ali Express which may have a working board and where the cost may not be much as compared to what you have been quoted.

2) Of course it also makes sense to get the board checked with a local technician who is good and experienced. For all you know, it may not be even chip level. It could be blown capacitors or easily replaceable parts on the board. All companies have a replace policy, so even if the board can be repaired, they will say the board has to be replaced and charge you the full cost of the board and replace your faulty board with some other customers repaired board of the same type!

I am ready to pay the full cost of the board. They are saying that it's not available anywhere. As a last resort only,I am considering ordering the mother board from Aliexpress or Ebay.i am not giving back the TV to Samsung.

They do not have an obligation to tell you the truth!

Remember they are doing a business. So it makes financial sense to say so. Do your due diligence and research hard and thoroughly.

I am sure you will get it.

Most of the samsung tv 's i have come across have a problem with either the board or the panel . That too the really expensive ones seem to fail exactly after the warranty period .

Instead of taking the effort to trace or find a board online , I suggest that you try with the freelance Tv repair guys . None of the TV 's can be repaired by changing components these days . It is usually the full board which needs to be changed due to SMD and thousand leads IC . Chip level service also isnt that effective .

You could post a pic of the board .. probably can check if the board is avaliable in chennai .
