Sony HT-DDW5500 or HT-M5 ?

HTiB - Home Theater in a Box.

Do not jump into a hurried buy. Please read different threads on this forum and gain some knowledge on basic terms and use.

Also can someone confirm ,

if Dolby TruHD and DTS HDMA is supported on DW5500 or HT-M5 ?

I mostly download 1080p torrent movies or buy BluRay DVDs and put them on my Samsung player.
So, I will need the audio over HDMI output to the main component system.

He does not have access to audiophile speaker and avr equipment Baij. That's why he's looking at the Sony Mu.Te.Ki option.

The samsung blueray player just needs to send it's hdmi out to the ddw receiver and from the receiver the hdmi out needs to go to whatever led tv you pick.

My suggestion is go for sony HX series or nothing at all, even if it's the 40" size the picture of that 40" in an hx series will be superior to cheaper larger screens.

Im already satisfied with the sound quality of DW5500 and HT-M5 and since my budget is within 50k, I just want to concentrate on features I need.

Ignore the sound, its done.

Just let me know, if those systems I chose can meet my requirements, like I asked in my above posts.

Thank you. :)

Are you looking for Floor standing speakers or tiny satellite speakers? 50K is insufficient for a complete floor standing system.

Speaker Package

You tell me, by what factors, its superior and I will go with it without any questions.

Im totally replying on you guys for the choice.

Make the points clear and tell me the total output.

Searching, "Pioneer HTP 822 ES" on Google doesnt return me any official search results from Pioneer or Amazon or something.

Doesnt feel right . Is this something custom package by this Indian company ?

I was just doing some search in this forum to know more about DTS .

Those words totally new to me.

Read somewhere,

If I play DD / DTS content from TV's USB port then I do get 5.1 original surround sound effect. That mean TV sends Dolby Digital / DTS contents through its audio optical output port.

How do you know, which is DD or DTS or HD Audio coming out, etc ??

How to make the difference, I mean ?

DD/DTS etc. are embedded in the movie file if it is downloaded mp4, mkv etc. files. In blu-rays and dvds you can select the format you want if it is available on the disk. Any blu-ray rip files of over 2gb file size usually has 5.1

Hi

I would recommend you to get the Sony HT-M5, sound wise there is not much difference between the two models. But the Sony HT-M5 is a newer model and it has 3 HDMI inputs when comapred to 2 HDMI inputs in Sony HT-DDW5500.

Both the systems do not support Dolby TruHD and DTS-HD MA. But you can get Dolby TruHD and DTS HDMA sound quality in Sony HT-M5 if your Blu-ray player can decode Dolby TruHD and DTS-HD MA. The Samsung player that you have can decode Dolby TruHD but not DTS HDMA. So when you connect your Samsung Blu-ray player to the Sony HT-M5 you can Dolby TruHD quality sound. If you want DTS-HD MA sound quality through a Sony HT-M5 then you should get a Blu-ray player which supports DTS-HD MA audio decoding. The Sony HT-DDW5500 does not support both the formats even if your Blu-ray can decode them.

As of now most of the movies that you download from the web will only have normal Dolby 5.1 or DTS 5.1 sound. If you want to get DTS-HD MA and Dolby TrueHD sound then you will need to play Blu-rays which have these formats.

Also Dolby TruHD and DTS-HD MA are 7.1 format, which means that they have two extra surround speakers at the back and it will give better surround sound effects. In future almost all Blu-rays will have 7.1 sound and also Aitel DTH will have channels with 7.1 sound. But these Sony systems do not support 7.1 sound. But you can also enjoy Dolby TruHD and DTS-HD MA sound quality with 5.1 system but the surround effects will be better in 7.1 system.

If you want 7.1 sound then look at some other brand. Onkyo has good 7.1 home theatre system - Model no : HT-S5400 and it costs some where around Rs 55,000 - 60,000. But it won't be as powerful or loud as the Sony systems but it has better features and you will notice a bit more clarity in sound. Should be enough for home use but not for Sangeet during the marriages, Office parties, Hotel parties :D

If your not bothered about not having 7.1 sound then get the Sony HT-M5.

How do you know, which is DD or DTS or HD Audio coming out, etc ??

How to make the difference, I mean ?

Your home theatre system will tell you in which format the sound is coming. Like if your getting DTS sound then the display in the home theatre system will show DTS.

Finally, a super meaningful reply! :)

Mate, whats the difference between Dolby TruHD and DTS-HD MA ?

And did you check this,
HTP-RS42 | Pioneer ?

How do you rate it with HT-M5 ?

Which one would you suggest and WHY ?

Like the HT-M5 says total output 1580W , whats the total output of Pioneer HTP-RS42 ?

Im going to Bangalore on Sept 21. Which is the best showroom who can show me the demo for this Pioneer model ? ;)

There is almost no difference between Dolby TruHD and DTS-HD MA. There is very little difference in sound quality between them, they both offer better audio quality when compared to normal Dolby Digital or DTS format. Both Dolby TruHD and DTS-HD MA supports 7.1 sound, while normal Dolby Digital and DTS does not support 7.1 sound.

I have not heard the Pioneer HTP-RS42 system, but generally Pioneer home theatre systems sound pretty good. The Pioneer is a 700 W system and it should be loud enough for home use. The Pioneer also has DTS MA and Dolby-HD MA support, so you can get both DTS-HD MA and Dolby TruHD if you connect your Samsung Blu-ray player to this system. Also this system has 4 HDMI inputs when compared to Sony's 3 HDMI inputs. Looking at the specifications of Pioneer system I think it will have a more controlled sound and the overall sound clarity will be better when comapred to the Sony. The Sony HT-M5 will play louder and will have more bass as it has two Subwoofers. If you like a Bass heavy sound then the Sony is perfect for you.

If you going to Bangalore then I would suggest you to demo Onkyo systems, you can try to get a demo of the model I had mentioned earlier. Its better to call the showroom a few days before you go and check if they have the system available for demo. Some times if you inform them in advance they can set up a demo for you. There are two Onkyo Wonderland showrooms in Bangalore, you can find their info and a list of other delears at Onkyo's India website.

For Pioneer get in touch with Pro Audiotronics, Bangalore. htstore.in has a store in Bangalore, you can check with them too.
