Hi friends,

This is my first post on this forum and excited to get responses for my query..
I have a sony mhc rg22 system which is 60 watts per channel system. The speakers have single 5 inch driver delivering 60 watts rms each.

If I replace them with dual driver sony speakers i.e. speakers installed in mhc rg 222,rg 70 etc, will they give louder music and more watts??

Hi

Speakers will work....if the speakers are rated more than the amplifier output, the amp in the sony system will get hot as all electronics do.....you need to check the specs and ohms in order to ensure appropriate matching...typically sony speakers are 6 ohms.....

Hi Efarnand1,

I checked the system. The existing system is of 6 ohms only and the ideal pair is also of 6 ohms. The difference is olny that cyrrent speakers are 6 ohms 60 watt per speaker and the ideal ones are 6ohms 120 watts as they are of 2x60 watt driver per speaker making it 2+2 speakers. Keeping in mind this factor, what kind of differrnce can I expect to system heating and audio output??

Hi

Audio output will be ok in terms of quality and you need to check if the system is heating up fast as most of these systems are IC based and not transistor based.

This means you need to check how long does your system take to heat with existing speakers by hearing the same music at the same volume.

If the system has a built in fan, then you can try with the intended speakers...It should work but not as loud as expected....if it works to your expectations then use it....if it heats a lot....use a small external fan to cool it....

as long as the impedance is greater than or original to the original speakers, you have no problem.
if you hear too much distortion, turn it down, else it might kill the amp/speakers or both

I have the same system and have both 60w speakers. I notice that the SS-WG99 subwoofer specified for this system is 12ohm and 120W . I'm keen to add one but 12ohm subs are not readily available .Have you upgraded your subwoofer also ? Perhaps you have a competely new system by now.
