Yes, I agree. I think they aren't concentrating on audio now, they are just making few micro CD players and mini hi-fi systems on large scale. May be the reason is they have many things to do.
LCD/LED/Projectors/BluRay Player/PS2-3 (forthcoming PS4)/Mini/Micro Systems/Cameras/Phones/Speakers/Earphones/Headphones/Image Viewer/Alarm Clock/Android Watches/Blank CDs etc etc etc (this list is very long)

Wow that is a really close resemblance.
Prepress, as others have mentioned already Sony did have very high end products at one time. The company grew at a rapid pace until they became a victim of their own success and lost focus. Even during those times, the company remarkably turned out some genuine winners. Its good to see a marquee name like Sony take a serious look at High End Audio.

The word worth is very subjective. If canned music reproduction is supremely important for a person, it becomes a goal. A tangible target performance benchmark below which is not acceptable. Then he spends to achieve this. How much you have to spend to achieve it depends on his goal.

Is the Sony worth that money ? Easily verifiable by comparing against speakers @ that price point. Unless you can do high end DIY of course !
