if you are spending too much money on the power cable, that is the last mile in the setup, where the power that this power cable draws is from a normal non-audio grade electrical wiring cables, how can one justify the cost spend on very high end power cables and the value it brings?

Not all things can be explained mathematically / scientifically. Many of us hear the difference. The call is totally yours and yours alone.:)

Do we also need a high end audio grade power conditioning that complement these high end power cables?

Cleaning up of power would surely improve the SQ. This can be proven scientifically and also logically.

PS... When I reflected on the MBL (sorry, not MDL: dyslexia rules, ko!) interconnects, I also reflected that the sponsors were there to show off their wares and I reasoned with myself that that was fair enough.

Great thanks to Capt Rajesh,Srini and Rajiv for their effort for this meet. The
success of this meet is ,there are no single complaint from the participants about the arrangements this is very big achievement.Because satisfying the whole group is always impossible but this happens due to the hard work of Rajesh, srini and Rajiv. They took effort for all the part Like Hotel,Food,Parking ...everything .For this they had several meeting and decided carefully to satisfy the members.Organizing team(Rajesh,Srini and Rajiv) handle the agenda very well and time is perfectly utilized, here captain act as a military man on every hour he visited all the room informed time is over and ask the group to change the room this help to complete agenda suceesfully, srini and rajive both are carefully watch the event how is going on if anything is deviated they involved and corrected that.So the success of chennai meets whole compliments goes to Rajesh,Rajiv and Srini :clapping::clapping::clapping:

Hi Nasseer,

Well said, Kudos to the Trio who made this meet possible. Though some people have also included my name as organiser, my contribution was very miniscule , by participating in the initial discussions , and later roping in one sponsor( who had to be shelved due to space, time and financial constraints). I was a passive organiser but very much an active participant.

I again congratulate Captain, Srini and Rajiv for the meet, and the response given by the participants.

Hope more shows will be held in future, to benefit the audiophile community on a whole.

Murali, I think you brought along Mr Sayeed?

In his quiet way, he was one of the stars of the day. Just getting to meet someone who is trusted to repair and maintain the equipment belonging to so many members here was great.

What made the first benchers to fall asleep>>>Are they sleeping???>>>The answer will in the next post of mine..

No no, not sleeping- just enjoying the music!

I know George sir that you guys are not sleeping. ;)

Session got extended because of this Wonderful matched equipments :) Quad II with LS3/5A + Bryston + Lyrita Pre.

I can see the music flow from tiny speakers makes us relaxed and needless to say LS3/5A is in most wanted list.

Hi Thad,

It is very rare to come across a person having such a wide knowledge of Tube equipments and Vintage amps and speakers. The hifi community as a whole will stand to benefit out of his introduction, that was the idea of bringing him.

Yesterday was a day well spent for me in all possible ways. More than just listening to the speakers on demo, I was quite intent on meeting the wizards and druids of the forum and gain better understanding into the reproduction of music. In that aspect, it was mission accomplished for me. The fantastic planning and execution with everything taken care of, along with the wide array of gear to audition were a nice icing on the cake. I cannot thank enough the team of Capt., Srini, Rajiv and others for their time, effort and expenses to make this event a success. Hats off to you gentlemen.

My sincere thanks to all the dealers who indulged us by lugging over all the equipment and giving us a taste of what I understand are some of the best products available in our country.

Here are a few random thoughts, inferences and take-aways from Yesterday that I'm hoping would be useful to somebody. I could be wrong on some or all of them, though.

1. DO NOT buy any equipment based on the description of the sound by others

2. Audition as many systems as possible before selling your wife's jewellery

3. The recording quality makes a huge difference on certain systems (Avalon Ascendants)

4. Some speakers need to be listened to in full-tilt (Avalon & Thiels)

5. Avalons are a tad weak on the bass but is a bit more of an all-rounder than the Thiels

6. Kodo drums sounded phenomenal on the Avalons

7. Most of my impressions of the Avalon and Thiels could be turned on their head if they are setup in an optimal room (Thanks Ramesh)

8. Your room decides how you listen to your music, not your spouse

9. It would be very difficult for a single speaker/system to satisfy all your aural needs

10. The Cadences bring Jazz singers to life, especially the ones of the fairer sex. Tin Pan Alley was sublime too.

11. The Klipsches rocked the hardest. Pink Floyd would have been proud.

12. My preference seems to border on the enjoyment of music more than ultimate resolution

13.A BS/sub combo might be the best bet to listen to full-range music in an apartment

14.If possible, every speaker needs 2 amps to switch between. 1 of the 2 has to be a tube amp.

15.A source makes a huge difference to the sound

16.Sadly I could not chat with more people

17.Wish we could've listened to the music a little longer

18.I'm planning to make a CD (and a thumb-drive) with all my reference tracks and carry it with me at all times. A compact screw-driver set as well. :D

19.I need to start off on my speakers and amp ASAP

20.Old is gold (LS3/5A and Quads)

21.Not all that glitters is gold

22.Harry Belafonte's voice is magical

23.I need to make a trip to Bangalore ASAP (Thanks Santosh & Ramesh)

24.I am eagerly looking forward to a vinyl meet in Kottayam. (Thank you Mr. Kuruvilla Jacob)

25.I missed out on hearing the Genelecs and Matbhuvi's car setup

26.Hotel Savera makes a mean pepper chicken gravy

I am hoping that meets like these would be regular events in the Chennai and Bangalore calendars. I am grateful for all the encouragement, tips and pointers that a lot of you friends were generous enough to share with me. Thank you everyone!

Yesterday was an eye opener for me. Though i read a lot about speaker and amplifier reviews and different ways they sound, I very vaguely understood the real meaning of the words the reviewers used. This meet helped me to understand and feel all what i have read.
The CD collection used for demo at Audio lab and profx was simply WOW. still hum few lines. Now i have a reference as what real music, recording and set up is.
Thanks you Capt Rajesh, Srini and Mr Rajiv for organising this wonderful meet.
Thanks for Murali sir, Naseer for our chat on various speakers and amplifiers.

22.Harry Belafonte's voice is magical
Oh yes, how nice to hear Harry Belafonte! I wore out his Island in the Sun 78rpm shellac record as a child. He was singing then; he's singing now; over 80? Not only singing but working for a better world in many ways. Without a doubt a great man :).

One can't satisfy all tastes, and it is no complaint that I heard a lot of music I really didn't like much, so it was a treat, at the end of the day, to "get down" with some Balamurali Krishna and Harry Belafonte. And I'll certainly be preparing my CD of weird sounds for next time: if our individual tastes get left out we have no-one to blame but ourselves :)

Wow! Those are some mouth watering pictures! Lots of old acquaintances too. Glad to know all of you had great fun.

Hopefully this taste will ignite drive enough to have another one of these sessions later on in the year? And hopefully I can make it to that one at least :)

By the way - love all your descriptions! Just so individual....and yes grubyhalo - you have it spot on. One can never buy audio equipment based on another's opinion...

Indeed. I didn't want to go OT describing him, his music and his works but yeah, he's the kind of guy I'd love to buy a drink for... :D

Absolutely. I was too lazy to find time to compile a CD of my own this time.

How you knew what I am doing? Are you clairvoyant? ;)

LOL! Looks like a lot of us would be planning to find objects to conveniently misplace!

Yes sir, Mr. Vortex, you did miss a lot of fun this time, hopefully you should make it to the next one. :) And, you do owe me a bike trip to Pondy, if I remember correctly, so we need to talk...:ohyeah:

Is it only with me or with others also:eek: I don't see the 'Thank' button on any of the threads. Very strange:confused::(

Hi Thad,

I expected you bring mahler symphony and some carnatic cds for meet and eagerly wait to listen symphony on MBL Setup but i missed that.Because my understanding is high end setup will give more performance with complicated music like symphony because in symphony more instruments will play at same time and this is tough to reproduce all the detail , any way you brought balamurali krishna cd at the end of meet which was very good and i enjoyed very much.

It was really refreshing to meet many great and knowledgeable individuals as part of a model audiophile community, one that all of us should be proud of.:yahoo:

I thank Srini, Capt.Rajesh, Rajeev and Murali to enable me capture some of the alphabets of the language of musical reproduction. Excellence gained and excellence proven. A special word of thanks should be extended to the members who participated from outstations. :clapping:

The profound experience of listening provided by ProFX, the touch of antiquity and clarity in the products from Analog Audio Labs and the admirable equipments of Audio people have left an imprint that still affects me.

Hmm, I don't think it is the browser. I feel that there some set limit for clicking the 'Thanks' button. Since I clicked it to thank all the congratulatory messages and participants' posts expressing their views, I would've exceed it.

A beautiful, well-constructed speaker with class-leading soundstage, imaging and bass that is fast, deep, and precise.
