Hello,

I am planning to get a speaker for my Devialet 120 amplifier.
I am in Michigan now, just completed two months here. My previous speaker was Harbeth Compact 7es3. Looking for more dynamics, separation and bass.
Please let me know your recommendations.

My listening room is not that big hence I think a good bookshelf is sufficient.
I am attaching listening area floor plan.
I am inclined to ATC, Graham and Harbeth SHL5+.
I think there are good US speakers available. (Tekton double impact is one which I am hearing a lot now)
Planning to get a used one as of now. Let me know your suggestions.

Thanks

Thanks heliumflight for the suggestion.
It is slightly above my budget as I just moved to US,lack of funds at this point of time.
But will keep in mind. I just searched in used market couldnt find it.

please mention a specific budget and that can be one of the smartest things to do on a thread like this so searches are focused and dont spray all over the place.

alternately, you can trawl audiogon and set your budget filter and mention options to choose from.

best thing is to listen and buy..and you are aware of it.

Budget I didnt mention because I am also looking for demo piece as I dont want to wait for speaker burn in. My bubget is around 5000$ .

USD 5000 in USA is eqv of USD 8000 here in India atleast - a very healthy budget indeed.

sell the devialet and go for KEF LS50W - active speakers or ATC active speakers

I have heard the devialets a few times and did not find them special.

The advantage is you can bring these things back to India as well.

One of my "desires" has been to own a reference 3A De Capo i + simple SET amp ....

USD 5000 will enable you to try that too..

regards

I have heard LS50 passive with good amps, due to some reason I didnt like it much.
ATC passive is a good option. Voltage is not an issue for passive amps, I mean if we take it to India?

Let me do some research on 3A De Capo i and simple SET amp. Thanks mpw for your suggestions.

U mean powered speakers like kef Ls50w ? Normally they are designed to work across countries IE voltages.

ATC scm 19 comes in powered version too.

Rgds

In some other forum, i have read that Wilson Benesch has good compatibility with Devialet, since devialet can drive power hungry speakers easily and wilson Benesch requires good power to sing. I dont about the price, but below mention model was paired with devialet-

Wilson Benesch

carry your amp and audition at least, whatever is the price for the speakers.:)

Yes mpw. I meant active speakers is having universal voltage option like Oppo?
If it is that way then it is a good option I agree.

Wilson models are expensive even used is above 10K $ I guess.

Googling "speakers for Devialet 120", I find Atohm GT1 strongly suggested on a couple of sites. On the Harbeth forum, Harbeth said to be magical with Devialet 200 so guess will work with the 120.
Devialet, it seems, works best with speakers having Devialet proprietary SAM technology. A list of such speakers is available on the Devialet site.

Renjith, I recently heard a friend's big PMC speakers driven by a Class D amp and a T+A DAC preamp and I had a rollicking good time at his place. Listened to lots of big music including Shostakovich 10th, Stravinsky The Rite and an Ellington album that escapes me. And no, it just wasn't the Macallan malt, I swear!

The PMC speakers are widely and well reviewed, so at a price you will also be able to bail, need be, if and when you come to India.

Good luck and what joy/anguish of an audiophile hunt!

Harbeth speakers are SAM enabled. Atohm GT is highly recommended but I am not able to hear the combination in my area. I was using Comapct 7 before and
was planning to get a better one than Compact7, but I am not sure due to my small room if I need anything bigger than Compact 7es3.

Thanks for your time Naturelover.

Thanks Vivek for your reply.I should have lived with Comapct 7 and Devialet for many years but I have to move to US hence I have to part with Harbeth Comapct 7es3. Many people use Devialet with PMC.
Can you tell me which model PMC you were listening?
