Suggestions for Bookshelf Speakers

I wouldn't know sir I'm not a dealer. You can check with profx if they have a store in your city. Amazon rates are normally higher.

@celester340 ...polk rtas are excellent speakers but cheapest that i find them is at Amazon for around 20k..is there a way we can get them within 15k ?
Amazon rates are exorbitant for speakers.
Finally what did you decide?
As for me I pulled the trigger on Marantz pm 6006 so now I am driving my WD 220s with it. The 220s initially sounded muffled, uninteresting, and dull. But now that they are sufficiently burned in they sound amazing with good sources.
If not made up ur mind yet go for them. Still available at hifimart for 18k.

Hello All,

I read all the posts in the thread and was really insightful. I am about a buy my first HT setup and I am into music as well but can't afford two setups yet.
I wanted to buy a good pair of bookshelf which can give me a all around performance. I understand that warfedales 220s are laid back and good for music only.
Please let me know which one to choose which can give me some aggresive sound for action movies as well and does justice to music too (50:50 sort of): Polk, BA, Taga?? (budget around 20k) (Marantz NR1508 AVR)

How many hours of burned in for your speakers to get the optimal SQ.

Depends on the driver and the components used (cone material / construction and integration of basket etc..) but generally most speakers sound good without about 20-25 hours of play

Thanks. What about Stereo integrated amplifier , Any X hours of play required to hit the optimal level.

The tweeters open up faster than the woofers. An average of 100 hours is good enough, low sensitive drivers usually need longer time to break-in.
It is advisable to play at a little lower than normal volume for the initial 50 to 100 hours.
Many put the speakers on continuous pink noise, but I would not recommend it, I would suggest play a set of distortion free good quality source files on a loop for 50/100 hours.

Setups whenever you play get better and more balanced after it warms up. This is more so in untreated rooms where the ear too warms up and adjusts to the room resonance.

Thanks . To be more specific query ,below is the new setup :
Amplifier : Marantz PM5005
Speaker : Wharfedale diamond 220 .

My assumption is 100 hours break-in required for both setup. Is it right ?

This is like the cable theory, some agree some don't.

I am in the agree crowd. All electronic components from CD player to DAC to preamp to amp need break in and they sound better after they warm up everytime.
With Class D amplification, this is to some extent mitigated, but initial break-in is needed.

I will give one example.
I purchased a 15-year-old but almost unused Adcom single ended amplifier which was well reviewed. The amp had been in cold storage for almost 8 years.
The amp technically checked for all parameters and was in healthy condition.
When I first connected it, I was thoroughly disappointed, there was hardly any low end or high end detail, the midrange was congested.
I just kept it powered up for 2 days. After that it completely opened up and remained my main amp for almost 18 months. I still have it.

It took about 100 hours
I am pairing it with pm6006 and the amp too took some time to burn in and sound good.
Before burn in everything sounded very ordinary and uninteresting. I also notice that only quality records sound exciting , if the source isn't of high quality we will be disappointed. The thing is where do we get high quality recording? or HD or FLAC music files?
What we get in India is low quality mp3s.

Very true, I do have the same feeling now.(just crossed a week time from purchase date)
Unable to find any great improvement in SQ. Even i have mailed Marantz customer support , they have replied that there is no need of burn-in required for an AMP.

I am planning to buy WD 220 in a couple of months to match this amp. So more Burn-in required for both setup(AMP+SPK)

While Burn in for the amp is being debated by many my personal experience is that it requires some burn in. However speakers need more time to open up specially the wharfedales with the Kevlar drivers.
By the way which speakers are u using currently?

My personal opinion, there is no time limit. Enjoy them and you will know when they have burned in fully, you will feel an improvement surely, for some it's 50hrs for some it's 100hrs or even more. Its a combination of real burn in and ears getting used to sound. So pink noise is not useful much. just listen to them as much as possible without changing their placement every now and then and without worrying about sound. Bass is the thing that improves more than anything for speakers, they will get more relaxed and not sound constricted.

Scansonic S4

The pm5005 is the wrong amp for these speakers, no amount of burn in will improve the sound.
Why wrong amp ?
Anyhow i have plan to upgrade new speakers for PM5005. Scansonic S4 is having little bass effect. So i am looking for WD 220 or any other brands
