Tata sky hd

Mine is working now. ESPN and Star Sports HD don't telecast anything when the matches (world cup or wimbledon) are not on. I finally got them to install it after much pestering. If you already have a box the installation is a cinch. You just need to disconnect the cable from the antenna from your existing box and plug it into the HD box, it will download the software. Then the Tata Sky guys have to 'activate' it remotely.

By the way, I still have a tata sky plus box which I would like to use, is there something we can do like using a splitter?

Most for the DTH service providers have a multi room offering wherein you can use the additional STB in other room with the same channel bouqet you have subscribed to with a marginal amount in addition to your channel package cost.

You will need to check in case of your HD package with their Customer care whether this will be possible.

Ultimately tata sky guys will use a splitter for both the connections.

To use 2 STBs, you will need an upgrade from TataSky. They will replace the receiver in your dish antenna with a "dual" one - you will have to pay extra every month, although it is less than the cost of two separate connections. However, you can then watch two different programs on the two different STBs.

I don't think the splitter will work very well. Even if you get it split, you will have to watch the same programming on both TVs. Basically, one STB will be driving both TVs (if at all).

splitter works fine.. only one cable comes till the splitter from dish.. separate STBs are required.. you can watch different programs.. in my apartment complex similar installation is done by tata sky.. I will click a picture of the splitter today once back home and share it here..

Let me understand this Psycho.... that means ESPN and Star HD dont have a 24 hrs dedicated HD service. The what they are going to broadcast after world cup and wimbledon. In any of the cases I guess the standard ESPN and Start Sports are still available on 24X7 basis.... right ??? What about Discovery and NGC HD ?? Available always or for some specific programs ???

Thanks in advance

hey sanju, yes, they don't have 24 hour programming as yet. I am sure that's only a matter of time though. But for now the world cup and wimbledon are available in HD, which in itself is a lovely thing I would think. Although I didn't manage to catch either of them in the morning, since no matches were on.

Discovery and NGC HD are both 24 hours and look very nice.

I was able to get the TataSky HD HTB from pai international Jayanagar in Bangalore yesterday. Installation is scheduled for tommorow. Pai international had 4 pieces of the same. When i spoke to the TataSky customer care before buying from pai international, i was told that it is not yet available in Bangalore.

Srinivas29, is your Tata Sky HD STB activated? I'm assuming that When TS says it has launched HD services in a city, its simply saying its shipped boxed to that city. By that logic, if you pick up a STB from say Chennai, you should be able to get it to work in Bangalore right?!

Thanks Psycho. What about the standard broadcasting. I mean when you have TS + box you must have tried that with component cable. So as far as standard boradcasting is concerned which combination will score high TS HD Box + HDMI to TV or TS Plus Box + component to TV .

TATA SKY HD in CHENNAI

There seems to be a major shortage for the HD ST boxes in Chennai. I tried all the big names in electronics /home appliances business but no one had stock. Retail chains like Chroma, Viveks, Vasanth.co do not have the box available.

Luckily I secured one box today following the leads from the forum members.

Other Chennai makkals who are looking for the HD box may try the following shops. I cannot guarantee how long the stock remains.

1. Adarsh Electronics, Vepery, Chennai

2. Abirami Audios & Videos alwarpet- near music academy

3. Jayam and Co - Anna Nagar [ New stock ]

Cheers

i think TS HD box + HDMI is marginally better, but really, nothing significant. and yes i was using component cables on my TS+ box, which didn't look significantly better than composite. Basically SD channel quality on TS is crap. No other way to put it. HD looks good though. Don't expect blu-ray level quality, (a) this is not 1080p and (b) it's compressed, but it still looks very good :)

How much Time it Takes for TataSKY to Activate HD Channels - The Installation Guy told me it will take 48 Hours for HD to appear on Screen. How come they can activate Showcase events and Package Subscription in less than a Minutes & to activate Golds HD it takes so much time...waiting - NO CHOICE.

once the box is installed, and hooked up, activation is a phone call away. that's what it was for me. the engineer called someone up and requested for an activation, and it happened in a minute.

Any idea which HD provider has minimal compression? With 2-3 HD channels and with intent to attract as many customer, if they compress, I wonder what will happen when more HD channels come in and they have good enough customers.

wow, watching the world cup and wimbledon in HD is something else. it's a world of difference from the SD signal. the difference is magnified of course because of (a) the compression that tata sky applies and (b) the stretching of the SD image to fit the 16:9 screen.

If anyone is even thinking "is it worth it?" The answer is a resounding YES!

I am so so tempted. But because I have TS+, I think it makes sense to wait for TS+ HD to be launched.

I have a 2 room connection. Other option would be to move my TS+ to the bedroom, and install the TS HD in the living room.

Any firm news on when TS+ HD will be launched ?

Thats a very Tricky and techie question Blasto ... :) and i am cent percent sure no technician from either DTH provider is gonna ans this. Just hope that they do not stuff the same bandwidth with HD and SD channels, thereby opting for more compression (less quality) when more and more channels are added in future.....

same with me , do not want to trade my TS+ with HD ...... CC says TS HD+ should be launched within a month....

I completely agree with this.

I had airtel Digital TB connected to my Samsung 46 inch b650 model through composite. The PQ was decent.

Now I moved to TataSky HD, the HD channels are ofcourse awsome, but SD PQ is crap and infact is worse than Airtel Digital through composite.
