Tata sky hd

That is not correct. The set-top box outputs only a single resolution, regardless of whether you watch a HD channel or a SD channel. Thus, very obviously the player does upscale the SD channels. Whether the upscaling is good or bad, is an entirely different issue. Also, due to the scaling to 1920x1080i the SD 4:3 picture gets stretched. This issue can be resolved by setting the set-top box to output the picture with pillar boxing. I assume that the TataSky set-top box has the feature. The SunDirect HD set-top box has the feature. The Dish TruHD box on the other hand, has the option in the menu but like so many other things with Dish TruHD, it does not work.

Could you pl help me with some settings I can do on the TS HD STB to make the TS HD STB not do the upscaling and leave it to the Tv to do. could not find a option.. the only option I got was under HD tere was selection for 720p and 1080i output.. selecting either did not make any visble impact on a 42 inch HD Tv that I have.. maybe on bigger screen size the 1080i may look better PQ than 720p... not sure though.

Sorry, but that cannot be done. You can only choose one output resolution - mine's set on 1080i. The box automatically upscales/downscales to the set output resolution.

Is the Tata Sky Logo dynamic in nature like Airtel's? As in does it change position (bottom right, top left etc) in different channels? what is teh transperancy level like?

Its at the bottom right and no it doesnt change its postition, its semi-transparent. Doesn't bother much.

Yes... its dumb as well. cos people dont get to see the logos before they buy, and after they buy, they sont change their providers on a whim. So this constant advertising isnt really reqd.

Friends ,

Reopening the thread for a small problem of mine. Just have bought Tata Sky HD box and hooked it with my Panasonic PV8.I also have a Tata sky plus STB. So I have decided to to use the HD box in my drawing room with PV8 and move the plus stb in my bed room (Sony EX 400).Now after watching the HD box with PV8 for the last few days I feel there is absolutely no issue of the HD channels, simply stunning apart from the foolish chinese sub in Nat Geo HD. But as far as other SD channel are concerned, my old combination of TS Plus STB with bandridge component cable scores much much better than this HD STB with in pack HDMI cable. The picture is somehow hazzy and dull. I got a strong protest from all of my family members and had to bring back the plus box again in my drawing room. Now I have connected the HD box with Sony Ex400 and getting the same result. Am I missing anything ?? Lots of you guys are using HD box so can you prescribe a solution here please.

Thanks in advance

....coaxial /spidf(audio), and left right for audio, 2 usb port, no optical connection.

TATA sky also dont have optical OUT ?.. I thought only airtel HD box doesnt have optical. I dont know why they are not keeping optical out...

Since most of the AMPS have onle single coaxial audio in .. it makes difficult to connect more than one device with same coaxial outs.

Yeah..me too feel the samething. I upgraded from Tatasky SD to Airtel HD box. Even though HD looks good with this box.. SD channels looks little dull with HDMI connection.
After that i connected with the RCA cables . It is little better than HDMI connection. The problem here is I need to switch to HDMI when ever i want to view HD channel. So.. I just left it as of now....

Sanju, lodge a compliant in MyQuery section of TataSky website, for the chinese subs...and endure they do not close the request till the problem is solved.

^^
they will close it even if the problem is not solved , i had T.S earlier they did that 2-3 times to me,
so keep checking and complaint again if they close without resolving

This is alarming - has anyone else experienced this?

I too find SD picture quality better with TS+ than with TS HD.

In my view, that's because with TS+, the set top box is supplying a SD signal, and then my TV is upscaling it. My Samsung plasma has a pretty good upscaling engine.

Whereas with TS HD, the upscaling for SD channels is done by the set top box, and it does a much poorer job than my TV.

With HD channels of course, there is no comparison and no complaints.

I wish there were some way to enable TS HD set top box to output a SD signal for SD channels, and a HD signal for HD channels. Alas, right now the choices are HD signal for all channels, or SD signal for all channels.

Hope this helps in explaining the difference.

Yes that's certainly helpful. But if you set the TS HD stb to output in SD (480i/p) and let your TV do the upscaling, shouldn't the PQ be at par with TS+ for SD channels?

Ideally all set-top boxes should have a setting that allows for the original resolution to be output. Basically a pass through setting that bypasses the scaler in the set-top box. Unfortunately all this is beyond the comprehension levels of the technically challenged morons, working for the DTH companies. Most of the decision makers there do not even understand the difference between a Composite, S-Video, Component & HDMI connector.

Seems there is no 'source direct' mode via HDMI or Component. How about also running a Composite connection to the TV and switching to that input when watching SD channels - does this give the same PQ for SD channels that you get with TS+?

That is exactly how I am using the Dish TruHD box and switch to the HDMI connection only for the HD channels. Although this does bring in another issue, that of digital to analog conversion in the cheap Dish set-top box.

Yes, but then you can't see the HD channels. So the whole point of buying a TS HD box is lost.
