The World Space Team is back!!

some of the key worldspace folks behind the Timbre media venture:

1) Giridhar Gowda (Head Content) Giridhar Gowda - India | LinkedIn
2) Sheetal Iyer (Head Programming) Seetal R Iyer | Facebook

it was Sheetal who told me on the worldspace forum, a long time ago (after worldspace closed down) that they're still at it and will launch in the future.

Enterprising team....Hope they would put up a service no less than World Space in hi-fi stereo quality and content which would last and not disappear into thin air like World Space did a few years back leaving a huge number of subscribers in the lurch and crying foul...

I wonder if this team has any links with World Space now. Is world Space in any way behind Timber?

I am eager to know what the offer from timbre, but what i found is Upcountry, KL radio missing in the list.

No, worldspace has nothing to do with Timbre, worldspace as an entity is now defunct and does not exit any more...all the current TImbre staff (who were associated with worldspace) were asked to leave when Worldspace India was liquidated...however, they somehow managed to take control of the studios and content which was available to them and work with what they had towards keeping the worldspace dream alive...the fact of the matter is that whether we loved it or hated it (for various reasons), worldspace was far superior than any other entertainment content broadcaster in the Indian radio scene and any such initiative is bound to succeed.

I agree on the same, nothing can beat world space i still have my 10 year old Hitachi receiver going strong, I still remember the day i had bought the same. Also what a wonderful time i had with it in the initial few years when they were offering free services.

I use my radio to listen to good old FM now and its still doing duty.

Great nostalgia, i too had worldspace right from the very beginning when the service was free. If I remember right, the receivers available at the time were JVC, Sanyo, Hitachi, and Panasonic (which was the highest end and most expensive). I was in doubt about which receiver to choose and heart of hearts wanted the Sanyo as it could fit well with my hi-fi system. After I heard the Panasonic, I decided to buy it even though it did not have the FM band. I have not discontinued turing into the worldspace programming (or what's left of it) and still listen to satellite radio. I've tuned into worldspace's AfriStar satellite and receive the BBC World Service, NPR, WRN and even AIR's Gyanvani (lol). I've been listening to BBC radio (on shortwave) since I was in standard 5. Only too pleased to hear it on a quality platform like worldspace.

I can't believe this. Please confim again that World Space Radio still catches any station at all. The radio and the antenna have been lying unused simply gathering dust eversince World Space deserted Indian subscribers.

You mean in all total two channels?
Thanks anyway. Let me dust off the BPL Receiver and try. It had been consigned to to the heap of useless items and shall require a considerable effort to search and set up.

WorldSpace to be re-launched in India soon

Folks,

This is a peice that I came across yesterday and thought I may share it with those who do not know this. Looks like WorldSpace maybe relaunching itself in India ( :clapping: :yahoo: ) with all the old channels by some Indian Media house.

URL: Worldspace India to re-launch | Advanced Television

My only question is will I be able to use my old WS box or have to get a new one?

Re: WorldSpace to be re-launched in India soon

I mailed @Timbre Media twice enquiring about the service and subscription details for an individual..but "No reply"..:-(

But the chances of them coming back with a satellite radio thing is very bleak!! They are saying more of internet radio or mobile radio stuff.. The new satellite radio norms introduced by the govt is so wierd that they'll find it hard to survive.
keeping fingers crossed anyway that this happens

not a chance when you consider broadcasting radio via satellite to specialist receivers is not financially viable, especially in cost concious and immature pay-entertainment markets like india. internet is the best option as there are no carrier fees. also timbre is quite innovative in their approach and are even looking at content options via DTH and FM radio...interesting concept...the old worldspace satellites are still active though, with basic information broadcasting...news and current affairs.

o! happy
love you for the shair
am a great fan of world space
you know i have WS instaled at all my offices
i was badly missing it
will check the site rite now!

somebody tell me how to use my old worldspace receiver, will it work again?

If it does not have FM ..... then, it is junk box ......
Luckily, I had bought mine with FM + Worldspace ....... Hitachi set ....... so, my daughter extensively uses it for listening in to FM ..

Sold off my my worldspace BPL radio to the scrap dealer today. It was not in working condition. Clearing off all my stuff as I am going to the Gulf next month. My Marantz CD6003 and PM8003 are Whafs are off to my relatives place for safe keeping.

tried last.fm internet radio for one month. Hoping that they would provide alternative to worldspace after it was shut down last year.
after one month, i didnt renew last.fm subscription. i didnt like their content.
without RJ, any radio station doesnt have any meaning.
