Using AVR's DAC in a stereo Setup

My Sister's son is migrating to Australia and has handed me his Marantz SR5500. it is I presume 6 to 7 years old.

I was wondering If I can connect it to my Stereo setup with comprises of the KEF Q300 and Parasound Preamp and VIntage Power Amp
and use only the AVR's DAC and not the power section or any other processing.

I have a Philips DVD player which has Coax and Optical. However I have a feeling that this Vintage AVR has a better DAC than the Philips DVD player

Any cues on how I can do it .

basically the DVD player needs to connect to the MArantz AVR and it needs to do the analog processing and send it to my Preamp.

Yes you can,it has preouts,so you can connect fronts of preout to stereo amp,DVDp to AVR & there you go.

Eh I guess you misundertood my post

I have a Power Amp and Preamp of Parasound.
Yes I know I can connect the power amp directly to the AVR> but that is not what i want to do . i want to retain my stereo preamp in the chain. I want to use the AVR not as a preamp but as a DAC

For that your avr should have a line out after the DAC which is usually not present.

You have a preamp and power amp from Parasound !

If you were to indeed find a solution to using that DAC inside the AVR, I wouldnt do it. It will prove to be a bottleneck !

Try and pick up some 200 $ standalone DAC. It will sound far better for pure stereo sound.

Then its difficult.You can keep marantz in straight mode & may it bypass DSP.

I have Marantz SR 5200 (I Guess 2001 Lineup). i got this as an used one from one of the Forum members. It has got a beautiful sound signature. I realised that the receivers DAC is far superior to many of the receivers offered today. So i started to make use the Digital connections to make the best out of it. (DTH, Stereo Listening & Movies).
