Wall Decor as Acoustic Treatment for Rear Wall

kindly provide your views on the utility of this wall decor for acoustically treating the rear wall.
Almost no utility. The treatment looks to be about 1-2 inches deep, which means that it will break up only high frequencies, certainly higher than the vocal range. You'd be better off with broadband absorption on the back wall to keep vocals firmly in front of you and not appearing (even subtly) to come from behind you.

Thanks sdurani.
What kind of treatment would allow for broadband absorption? And if possible also be aesthetically pleasing?

regards

sdurani,

I have the anti-thesis of a treated listening space. No carpet, no diffusion/absorption material, nada. I know zilch about room treatment.
The only time my speakers misbehave is when they are within 2 feet of back wall. Very boomy; even this is controlled by turning down bass on the IA.

When I draw my speakers into the room, front baffle is about 44-48 inches from back wall.
Separation between front and back walls is about 10.5 feet. The ceiling height is about 9.5 feet.
There are no side wall reflections as there are no side walls nearby. A 3+1+1 fabric couch set faces the speakers.
Vocals and instruments are solidly behind speaker baffle plane. I psycho-acoustically sense a depth of maybe 2 feet.

So my question is, have I got lucky by pure happenstance?

Cheers,
Raghu

How am I supposed to know that? If you don't hear problems, then you don't hear problems. No need to worry about acoustic treatments.

Thanks sdurani. Comforting to know that my listening space can remain as is.
Anyways the missus will wring my neck if I say anything remotely suggesting room treatment :D

Cheers,
Raghu

Rockwool or anything similar. Wrap it in decorative burlap or speaker grill cloth.

you can also use those cotton bed sheets or cheap cotton sarees with nice colors to give that decorative feel. just make those pass breathing test.

I am a bit confused on whether to use absorbers or diffusers for the rear wall. The suggestion seems to go for absorbers on the rear wall. Is that correct ?
Thanks.

Last time I tried blowing air through a saree, I got slapped. Gotta be careful with that "breathing test".

You should have sang hosannas stating she looks like Marilyn Monroe in Seven Year Itch before pulling such a stunt.

Cheers,
Raghu

you should get to bed-sheet first then try with saree. that ends up in another kind of a slap.
