Dear Friends,

I want to buy a 5.1 channel home theater system within Rs. 1.5 Lac.
Last weekend, I have listened Tannoy V4 Floor Standing speakers with 2 rear and 1 central Tannoy speaker speaker along with Velodyne subwoofer powered by Dennon 2113 AV receiver.

The sound was too good - so real and natural. But I guess there are many other good speakers like Boston Acoustics, MA, B&W, Wharfedale, Polk and many more....

Could you please give me your exprt advice and feedback. BTW my room size is 320 sq. ft. And How about Sonodyne Sonus wrt Tannoy and others please ?

Many Thanks
Arijit

hear as many as possible and then decide.
sonodyne is very good at the price they are avilable...

by the way where did you audion tannoy in kolkata....??
thank you...

320 sq feet means like 20*16...i suggest you also hear bookshelves...same priced bookshelve and floorstander..the bookshelve will be definitly better in terms of sound..if you find yourself satisfied with bookshelves power..it will be of better sound.also if you buy booksheves of same quality you can use the saved money for a strong/better sub....
well the opinion is mine..you must demo for your taste...
btw i am also ghosh..

i agree
get good bookshelves, especially considering for that space you will need 2 subwoofers!! It is large room and you will need even bass.
Have a look at PSB B5 / B6

Thanks Prosenjit and ShaQ for your valuable inputs.

I have auditioned Tannoy at Digital Acoustics - just opposite to Madox Sq Park.

Why not JBL ES series ?

You can configure these series speakers with ONKYO and finish full 5.1 within 1.5 lakhs.

Also, you can buy these from Amazon.com or Amazon.de for a better price and save some money.

JBL ES 80 front tower speakers - 50k (buy from india JBL)
JBL ES 25 C - center channel - 10 to 13k (including shipping and customs) - on Amazon
JBL ES 10 - surrounds - 15k(including shipping and customs) on Amzon
JBL ES250 - Subwoofer - Wait for some deal on Amazon ( Some of us got it for 25k :))

@ Sagar - I have listed JBL just after Tannoy. But I felt the Tannoy sound is more clear ( specifically for soft music ) and much natural without any other ornamentation. Obviously it varies from person to person. And good thing I have listed the bass effect of Velodyne max 12 - its so natural .. so soothing ...

If I go for Sonodyne Sonus 2504 + Sonus rears along with Velodyne max 12 sub - any suggestion please

Friends another confusion I have...

Suppose I do have a speaker with nominal inpedance 8 ohm with continuous power 100 W. To supply the power to this speaker from AV Receiver for optimal output - which receiver should I use - receiver which remits 75W per channel or receiver which remits 95 W per channel.
Please help me... I am trying to understand little background to get the optimal output :)

Arijit, sorry I never got a chance to hear Tannoy. True, JBLs are bit bright and you may not like them as you like soft sound.

Velodyne 12 is a good Sub for Movies, ES 250 is an all rounder. Go for an audition to hear es250.

Also, consider polk (especially TS series which comes under your price bracket). I personally liked polk's TS series book shelves. Awesome sound. Hear them once.

Could anyone please help me understand the following thing;

Whether the RMS wattage provided by AV Receiver should be greater than the RMS wattage of the speaker or vice versa ?

Thanks

Don't worry about what your speakers max rating is, it is all but irrelevant. Worry about not having enough power (from receiver) to adequately drive them, as that is when the speakers get damaged.

Thanks Sagar a lot. COuld you please just let me know with Tannoy V4 standing speakers Dennon 1513 can go or I have to go for Dennon 2113 ?
1513 remits 75W and 2113 remits 95W per channel. Continuous power (RMS) of Tannoy V4 is 100W.
If you could suggest me would be great.
Thanks

Denon 2113 will drive Tannoy V4 better. Also consider buying an AV receiver from Amazon.de website. There are some good deals.

Am checking the site of Amazon.de - seriously prices are less out there. But its in Netherland. Will they take import duty and international courier charge extra ?

Yes they will take care. Final price will be shown at the time of final credit card transaction.
Final price will include shipping cost and import duties.

Last Saturday I visited Harmonie Audio - at Tollygunge Circular Road ( opposite to Chirantani Club). The shop owners Mr. Jalwani & his son are so humble and knowledgeable. You never feel that you are outside of your family member and taking any advise regarding sound system. The whole environment is so derocated and well equipped. I auditioned Wharfedale Diamond and Paradigm Monitor speakers. Guys who are in Kolkata and ready/ planning to have speaker system - please visit once Harmonie before you finalize any brand.

A beautiful, well-constructed speaker with class-leading soundstage, imaging and bass that is fast, deep, and precise.
