WD TV Live (ie WD TV 2)

Hi,

Thanks dude, the first line of my previous post does not apply to you now. Wrote it before I read your post.

Can you just confirm for DTS-HD-MA and DD-TrueHD audio, pass through or bitstream, any thing will be fine.

thanks.

I have not been able to get my hands on any file with DTS-HD-MA or DD-TrueHD, so cannot confirm anything.

If you can point me to a sample file, would be happy to test it out.

Not my link, but HD Demo link.

High Definition Trailers (HD) - Demo World

Download window doesnt start. Is it online Demo OR can dwnld?
Any special SW for that?Is it bcose of my slow net?(64kbps+)

Hi,

I got your point, (i.e the HD demo link not working)........... and yeah! one problem is, their network is very very slow(for a 2MBps connection it was downloading at 32kbps speed:mad:). For me also it did not happen through an external download manager, so used Mozilla's defaulf downloader. Was slow, but managed to complete the whole page.

cheers

Tks for the link. Will try it out this weekend.

Tried it out. The Dolby 7.1 file works fine, but not the DTS 7.1. Will try again with some more files.

I also got a USB wireless adapter yesterday. Plugged it into the WD TV Live. works like a dream. In seconds I was browsing videos in YouTube.

Hi,

Thanks, but just curious, can you specify the name of the file which you tried, both DD and DTS.

thanks.

Tried the files again - they work perfectly.
I have a Denon 1910 which is able to decode the signal.

The files I tried are :
1. hd_dolby_bit_harvest_lossless.m2ts
2. hd_dts_sfx_long_lossless.m2ts

After thinking a lot, I booked WDTV Live (and Thermaltake BlacX Duet) from 20north. I took the 14 day shipping option. It should reach before 19th. :yahoo:

I too, did not find it locally. In fact one website mentioned that worldwide availability is not that great. I stay in Mumbai and could find a local dealer in Lamigton Road. He mentioned that it might take 20-25 days for this product to come in India but I am not sure if he can keep his words. Therefore I ordered it from 20north yesterday. Seen couple of reviews on the net for this site and they are not negative. One person had a problem but it was resolved to his satisfaction.

I got it for 6.8K inclusive of air freight (delivered duty free) after applying HiFiVision coupon. It's a steal for this price. Official price in India is 10.5K. Even if they sell it under that I am sure you are not going to get it for this low. Even the older WDTV goes for more than this price.

You'll miss on the warranty (I guess) but products like these go through fairly stringent QC checks. Also somewhere I read that it has a global warranty and need to be transferred even if you buy in India.

I was given delivery time of 20 days (by air). Reddream posted his message on 30th Oct. If he had just ordered then it is unlikely he would have received it by now. Anyways, I am too interested to hear from Reddream.

Hi i dont know whether this has been answered but I dont think you will miss out on the warranty. WD has international warranty for all its products . Just called them up on their helpline number and they will guide you as to how to get warranty in India . It may take 2-3 days to change your USA product code to an Indian code but you will 100% get warranty. Confirmed for WD TV gen! by me directly with the WD India helpline. Thats the reason why I love WD !!

Great! That's cherry on the cake.... :yahoo:

Meanwhile I also bought WD 1 TB My Book locally for WDTV Live. I could register it directly through the net. I will try calling their help line to register WDTV Live...:)

Second file seems to be DTS-HD MA. Do you mean it plays (bitstreams) DTS-HD MA as well? There were reports on the net that Live can passthrough Dolby T-HD but supports only core of DTS-HD MA. Since I don't have HD audio receiver, I could not check this function... Can you please confirm...

Saw some people talking about some firmware upgrade (1.01.12) that bricks the unit...anyone seen this? has this been resolved? any idea?

I am ready to pull the trigger on this one (from amazon to be brought down by a cousin).
