Western Digital WD TV HD Media Player - a HTPC replacement??

^^ The player can do DTS 5.1 over optical no issue. In the audio settings there must be something like "Bitstream" or "RAW" select that and see if you receiver shows the DTS signal while playing the file.

I am in Bangalore. I am looking for a WD TV Live to connect to my WD external HDD. Intent is to play *.mkv files with DTS Audio. Right now, i will be directly connecting the LCD TV via HDMI. (Future plan is to connect to HT).

Questions:

1. Where do i get WD TV Live in Bangalore? (Tried Reliance Digital - iOmega & Staples - Seagate HT+).
2. Will WDTV Live mkv/DTS audio work with a simple HDMI cable connection directly to an LCD?

TIA

2. Will WDTV Live mkv/DTS audio work with a simple HDMI cable connection directly to an LCD?

Yes it should, but the audio would be simple stereo.

I plan to buy a SONY HTiB. It has optical input and all,but the DVD player doesn't support any popular file formats like MKV. Now if i want to replace the DVD player with a WDTV, does it work ? Is it a good combination ?

Got my WDTV Live yesterday. Thanks to a friend who carried it for me from USA.

Friends, can someone tell me where in Gurgaon or Delhi (believe Nehru Place is the place - but I am looking for shop names/numbers) I can pick a decent HDMI cable and also how much will it cost.

Thanks in advance.

WDTV live has both HDMI and optical outs...if the sony htib has optical in or hdmi in, then the wdtv will work. picture quality on files played by wdtv is good...pl go thru this thread

Hi guys

I got a WDTV Live from US recently and it comes with firmware version 1.01.12. Seems the latest version is 1.02.21 and I'd like to upgrade to that.
Does anybody know where I can find older firmware versions (say 1.01.24) ? This will let me roll back in case I run into problems with the latest version.

Thanks !

Hi ,have anybody owning WD TV Live here faced such issue.
I am from Kolkata.I was connecting the WD TV Live media player to my Sony 32 inch LCD TV. Now when I connect via HDMI or Composite ( Red/ White/ Yellow) . The connection seems fine. But when I connect via Component ( Red/ Blue/Green ) there is a pecuiliar greenish hue on the screen. I attach the pictures taken. This hue overlaps whatever is played on the screen.
Now I am sure of the connection and the cables are plugged in exactly as the color codes are given ( i.e Red to Red / Green to Green etc.).But no avail. Please help. Is there any defect in the player ?The TV is fine as I have connected a DVD player via the component cables and it is OK.

Seems like one of the cable is damaged. Remove one cable at a time and look for change. If there is no difference after removing a cable (Red/Greeb/Blue) then try connecting a different RCA cable instead of that and check. Also try changing PAL / NTSC on TV. Turn On Progressive scan on TV. If there is any video setting which has YPbPr as option? Check that too

Are they WD factory refurbished?

The current model has only optical, no coaxial.

Looks like a NTSC / PAL issue.
If it is working fine via HDMI, why bother about component >
