Western Digital WD TV HD Media Player - a HTPC replacement??

Played around with the WD for around 2 hours. It is AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks sam for recommending it to me. Money's worth and more. We browsed through family videos, copying from one usb port to the other works like a charm, subtitle delay-increase option is too good. Only thing - it can't forward to a particular point in the movie, only forwards at 16 x.

How to get the latest firmware? Give me an easy step by step guide please. My model is different to what is written on the wdtv site for gen 2 model.

You are most welcome Pratters, told you it would be a worth an investment. Not being able to forward is something they should provide with a firmware update (PODH did).

You can download the latest firmware from down below.....

I wonder how the subtitle delay option work??

Maybe its not even there in GEN 1 players (I have one of these).

And about the forward or rewind part.....you can presst the ff button it will start forwarding at 2x.....then press the next button to take you ahead by 10 minutes.

Is it safe to download the firmware? My model is different to the one provided in the link. I am afraid it might destroy my device.

Ok so this is the image of remote. You talking about buttons around the enter button??

I usually sync my subtitles on pc only using softwares but it still would be good to know about such a feature if it exist in WD TV.

Pratter firmwares are not model dependent, but version dependent, the link I gave you is for all WD TV Gen 2 products ...... and dont worry you do not damage your product if the firmware is not correct, the device would simply reject the update.......

Clink on the easy installation instructions at the right side to get step by step instructions

And I doubt the device would come loaded with latest firmware update....

Check system information in your device is it same as 1.01.77 .... if it is then you got the latest firmware installed.

Yeah I checked exactly that and it said 1.01.77.

This device has so many features. Video preview for videos recorded and not named, song selection by artist etc. Every thing has been looked into with great care. So tiny, I can carry it any where with my 2 Seagate 500 GB externals and on trips where I don't need a laptop, I can still play the media on the go. It is perfect.

Ordered WDTV Live Plus from Amazon USA using Indian HDFC Credit Card and billing address, to be delivered to a US address on 22nd June'10. Total cost INR 5498.00 ($119.99) and product got delivered to US address on 23rd June'10 to my colleague. This was my first order from any online portal and amazing service from Amazon I must say with complete tracking of delivery and update on each status change:)...WD online store was asking for $149.99 plus $5.00 with 3 days shipping option for the same item.
Now eagerly waiting for him to come back to India so that I can try my hands with this most talked about media player :yahoo:

One more question. How do you attach your projector and music system (Sony in my case) to the WD-TV. I want video to the projector through HDMI but how will I get sound to the music system? Which cable connected from where to where will do that for me?

Oops just checked ..... Only optical, apologies.............anyway does not make a difference, optical is enough for 5.1 audio.

thats what, even when I had checked last, i saw only optical, it'll make a difference to me, coz I'll have to buy optical cable now and I won't be able to use my bandridge coaxial:sad:

Anyways, am still waiting for my WDTV Live Plus, my colleague reaching India this Satday:yahoo:

Just saw this somewhere

@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@

BUT The issue of concern is that the US model
(NTSC): WDBAAN0000NBK-NESN supports only NTSC

whereas tat available in INDIA supports PAL
either of the 2
(apac=asia pacific)
(emea=europian) i guess it shd be APAc...watever
* Order/Model Number APAC (PAL): WDBAAP0000NBK-PESN
* Order/Model Number EMEA (PAL): WDBAAP0000NBK-EESN

IS the NTSC a problem..
My question

1. will it work on indian tvs
2. will it play thru only ntsc dvd s or blu rays
