Western Digital WD TV HD Media Player - a HTPC replacement??

Many people complained about the fact that the B-Rad firmware makes their dvd rom spin at its max speed which makes it noisy. Any such issues faced by you guys here ?

No, we never noticed anything unusual....shall lookout next time.

mat bolo - bas mere liye bhi 2 mangva do :-)

Choro raaz khol deta hun.

I bought it from Best Buy . My sister is a premium member of Best Buy and she had a Best Buy $55 off coupon which was about to expire. I waited for Best Buy $100 offer and jumped on it as soon as the offer became valid.

$ 100(wdtv) + $11 ( taxes) - $55 (coupon)= Net $55

So me happy.

Also they were saying that for playback 1080p movies you need the faster 20x dvd rom drives. But the problem is that when these dvd roms spin at 20 x they make a loud whirring noise. But again since you guys did not notice it then it must have been rectified in the latest version of the release.

Well just heard the news that WD is working on bring out a new version 2 of the WDTV, the new model would probably not feature a hard drive, but could add Ethernet and DNLA compliancy,
Other functionality is likely to stay the same. Any new model would allow users to playback most every file format directly into their TV (including hi-def mkvs), either via memory card or via an attached USB hard drive.
Version 2 is expected to be announced in the autumn.

Just got my WD TV today and straight away put it to testing. LOTR 1080p and Matrix (all 3) 1080 with DTS worked flawlessly. Connected to Seagate Freeagent and drive was recognised without any hassle. Optical cable to Pioneer 525 provides Dolby Digital and DTS. HDMI to Samsun A610 40inch. PQ: Fantastic, SQ: Fantastic (depending upon the source).

Registered the product at WD tv and they show warranty validity for one year. Firmware updated without any issue. So far, happy! :yahoo: :clapping: Will report if there is any trouble.

@reju : Did you check out the sound issues with the WD TV when you use an external DVD Rom Drive ?

hi have updated to 1.02.08 and like 1.02.07 there is some problem with video getting struck for a few secs on forward/rewind on 2x/4x/6x/16x in 1.02.07 it was for 30 odd secs now its much less but still its there..any one facing similar problem or is it only me...and in 1.02.07 it used to take lot of time for movies to begin the same ones get started much faster now...your experiences pls..MBR/others..thanx

There seemed to be none....

Got my WD TV today. :clapping: :yahoo:

The player is smaller than what I expected and the piano black finish does makes the thing look beautiful.

Updated Firmware to 1.2.07 immediately !! Works beautifully. If only the interface was a bit faster then this thing would have been a joy to use.
