Western Digital WD TV HD Media Player - a HTPC replacement??

I just now logged in at lynx-india.com to buy WDTV for a friend. The price is Rs.6400/-, I was about to pay that but then a screen appeared and added Rs.800/- as tax.

So at Rs.7,200/-, did not buy.

Sorry i dint go that far saw the price and thought I should post it here. Thk 7200 is the price with which it sells outside(unless you are in Mumbai), you can do one more thing you can call Amarbir who is the owner of that firm and may be negotiate with him regarding the price. tell him you got the link from this site( may be you can get the price reduced a lil further).

The mobile-no is given in the contacts link in that website.

The dealer is in chd not in mumbai!! and the price is same even here!

Looks highly unlikely! I got my wd player from lynx only and I dont think the price will be reduced. The importer of WD players in india is CHAMPION COMPUTERS in Nehru place. Since you live in Delhi you can make a trip there and see if you can get a better price from him!!
 
Today i got my WD TV from US through my friend. it costed me 99$ (4.8k Rs).

i didnt open the box yet. hope everything will works fine.. i am not sure about the validity of warranty in India

i tried to register it yesterday. it says the unit has "out of region" warranty. anyway i will call them today on the number specified for India.
 
Earlier even I was thinking to get it from US so I sent them a mail inquiring about the warranty and the reply was that once you get the player you can call the hotline no ( Of India in this case) and they will transfer your warranty within 24 hours!!

Seagates MP also abt to launch in India.So mant opts.

Hi,

The WD version 1 does not play .VOB files(confirmed). Not sure about Xtreamer......but is listed in the specs.

And hey friends can anyone confirm the picture color outputed from the WDTV.

Cause mine dose not O/P proper colors......please check my last 2 reply's in the following thread for more detailed info.

I have a WD TV 1.
It plays .vob files perfectly.

Picture quality and clarity is excellent.

Are you using the composite video out or HDMI ?

It surely does.
I've taken a .vob dump of my Quantum of Solace DVD (split into multiple 1GB .vob files). It plays them perfectly.

The menu and subtitles did not work, if I recall correctly.
 
Thanks for the replies. But I still have my doubt. So the WDTV should play the DVD rips that I've created from my DVD's, right? It's basically the copies of the DVD I got by using AnyDVD software. It has the same VIDEO_TS folder and all the .vob, .bup and .IFO files. So can the WD TV play this movie as a DVD player plays a DVD?
