Western Digital WD TV HD Media Player - a HTPC replacement??

Actually as of now my main concern(I mean use) is that I should be able to play all my avi/mkv/vob/mp4 files from my Hard drive without any glitch and that's all I need. Not even thinking about playing it via network and stuff like that. May be after a year or two I'll think about that but that's about it. So for that reason I thought WD TV would suit my purpose and if I can get one in 2nd hand market it'll be really VFM. Untill then I'll use my laptop to screen the movies into my TV.

Hi,

The WD version 1 does not play .VOB files(confirmed). Not sure about Xtreamer......but is listed in the specs.

cheers.
thanks.

Hi,

Sorry for replying without googling about the info on the net. One of the other forum was suggesting that you put the .vob files outside the VIDEO_TS folder and it'll play...........and the same situation worked for me but donot know why?. If the .vob file is put inside the VIDEO_TS folder it does not play. Is it the same issue with others.......or is it playing for anybody from within the VIDEO_TS folder.

Sorry once again.

Thanks.

+1 more thing is, if you have a sequential file's of .vob, WDTV does not play it continuously, the reason being we have a habit of pressing the enter button on the remote to start any file to play........but if you need the WDTV to play sequential .vob's continuously then we need to press the play/pause button. (Not sure whether this has been discussed earlier in this forum.)

But one problem still existing is, if my .vob has got 2 audio tracks, and when I play the .vob for the first time and change to 2nd audio track, the second .vob file changes back to the 1st audio track..........any idea on how to retain the specified audio track throughout the play.(i.e in all .vob files.)

Thanks.

Hello all

Is there anyway we can play a DTS WAV audio file in WDTV player ? WDTV is supposed to pass through DTS files.

When i play this file lot of noise comes out of the speaker. My receiver can decode DTS and Dolby Digital 5.1 files.

I am wondering if i can make these files play normally by changing some setting either in WDTV or my receiver.

Thanks
Zorro

this is a good news, they still supports. is there any official info regarding the support deadline of official firmware support for WDTV ?

It still does not support DVD Menus and segments. Whenever I press next, it goes to the next vid file. Not the next segment of the file playing.

I saw this thread after a long time and was happy to find that there is an update of Firmware.

Strangely and Sadly they havent fixed the subtitle problem which was suggested and got votes in 1000's in the WD TV user website!!!!!!!! the option to increase size of Subtitle and color and positioning is very impo!! and the size is particularly small when watching on a CRT tv.
