Hi diplomat,

Could not get previous reference of this post but if you would like to know about WDTV with DTS capability (We may call it WD Ver. 2) then I may help you.

This new unit is very recently introduced by Western Digital even later than WD TV Live. From outside it resembles old WDTV but it is very different than that. In fact, its more close to WDTV Live than old WDTV. It uses the same processor of Sigma (8655) that is being used in Live. It also has HDMI 1.3 means it "can" bitstream HD audio. In nutshell its WDTV Live minus its network capability.

This unit is available for $99 or so in US. So basically a VFM solution. Availability is mostly low. Even previously introduced WDTV Live is not yet available in India so this unit is out of question. It would make sense to buy WD V2 over older WD due to its faster processor & HD audio capability. Also EOL (end-of-life) of old WD is near & company may not support firmware updates for long time.

Hi,

Yes, I have WDTV Live... received 2-3 days back from 20north.

I do not have receiver capable of accepting HD audio streams. Anyways I tried playing samples clips of TrueHD and DTS-HD MA. THD clip does not output audio, but DTS-MA is played with sound.

It might mean that the unit is bitstreaming THD (hence no sound) put passing only core of DTS-MA. For proper verification I need a receiver capable of accepting HD audio.. help is welcome from anybody in Mumbai...

What are these crappy updates for. I seriously am doubting whether WD is gonna release any nice features from the wishlist with future firmwares. Sad state of affairs really !

Yesterday I saw a media box from compaq in showroom.
It was 1ft(H) X 6 in(W) X 1ft (D) around with DVD-rw in built(vertical)
Just ask abt & found that its not MP,but complete PC built with Atom processor.
Price was 16k with LCD screen free.Sorry I did not enquire more as I was rushing. But still a good news for HTPC builders.

Hi Needed some advice here.

I need more storage and I am not reallysure whether I should buy those external hdd's anymore . There has been many a case where the external casing fails of the HDD with the HDD being perfectly ok in the inside/ Breaking open the case and extracting the HDD voids your warranty. Hence I was thinking of going for an HDD Docking Station spmething like this :-

Amazon.com: Thermaltake BlacX Duet USB 2.0 Portable External Hard Drive ST0014U: Electronics

and adding Internal HDD's as and when required. This way it works out to be cheaper as well as occupies lesser desk space. What say all ?

Edit: Also I wonder whether the dock will be recognized by wd tv !!

I have WD 500GB blue HDD & ZIPPYS sata casing. Its working perfect.
So we can use HD internal OR ext as reqd.
New WD500 GB green is better with 32MB cash & produce very less heat.

Me too plan to go for the WD 1 TB green or the 1.5 TB green. Somehow I really dont trust the 1 TB drives because of its high failiure rate but I have heard the new WD green drives are more reliable than before and have a comprastively lower failure rate..
