What should iI buy as source

Hi,

I am looking for a source for use of my brother who has got a lot of his music in the MP3 format. Presently uses some Chinese DVD player and it sounds crappy. He is still in college and cant spend much, but there must be some way out, so dear friends what would be a appropriate source for him to use. Amp and speakers are of Philips make.

Budget for the source? You could try an entry level dac with usb as well as digital coaxial/optical input. Then he could connect his pc as well as dvdp to the dac and use as source. Try Gigaworks dac.
