When TataSky is adding more HD channels

In my honest and humble opinion, Videocon D2H is the best bet for HD channels (22 channels as of date). Never mind if there is 5.1 audio or not with D2H. Does audio really matter with crappy soap operas?

But it does matter with Star Movies and Star world. Honestly, these are the only 2 channels i watch. I'd love for them to include Movies Now in HD

I've been using Tata sky HD for too long now and i think i am being looted.I just want to switch to a better provider.What should i go for,please help.

I too went thru the same when I was revnewing my account a month back. But whatever little research I did - it was not as if everyone else was offering it at half the price - in my case I wanted all channels.

So if everything else being equal ( except fewer HD channels) - if the price between all providers is within 10-15% of each other - I guess the customer service of tata sky is worth the premium - my two paise

GSAT-10 launch was successful. Hope # of HD channels on TS increases in the next few months.

Wheather it is Tatasky, Airtel, Dishtv...they would increase the price even if the broadcaster do not increase the price. There is no transparency and TRAI is just sleeping instead of regulating. The prices of DTH would come down only if the digitization of cable happens, like what happened with cellular providers some decades back when they were charging exorbitant rates. If cable digitization happens all over India the DTH providers would fall in line and prices would come down.

The number of TV households in India is estimated to be around 147 million. The cable industry has grown from 0.4 million cable homes in January 1992 to an estimated 94 million cable TV homes in 2011 with more than 800 registered channels. Well got mail from TS alright... but the price as of now remains to be the same.. the 100 Rs.. makes sense.. and I guess they were just letting you know that as the channels number increases the price is definitely gonna shoot up :/ but for now be happy we ve added 1 or 2 more HD channels as a favor !!

I am bit skeptical about TataSky's HD policy. Its definitely going to be a money churner for them. But if they really do well to cater more mullah out of it then I dont think other DTH providers will stay away to implement this policy as well.

The policy would be beneficial in near future if and only if they can keep the price down and can give more HD channels.

Just a thought, what could be SD version for the channel like TenHD in future?do we need to add all the TEN channels for this ?

Yes the Email sure is the indication for future price increases,but as far as i know Tata sky had claimed the price for HD channels at that time,and they never mentioned that the price would increase with the addition of HD channels,i thought that the price for the entire package would be the same no matter how many channels they add.Sometimes i feel cheated and hence im strongly considering shifting to Videocon as suggested by a member in the previous posts.

Monthly bill has suddenly went up. Multiroom 160 -> 200 (2 Nos.) and this HD Access Fee crap, had to upgrade from (Supreme sports Kids + English News + HD Pack ) to (Grand Sports + HD Pack) because I want Star Movies HD and Star World HD.

I want to change DTH but stuck due to investment in boxes.

If you got the same email which received, what they want to convey is 1) price of HD gold will remain Rs. 100 per month but you will get only those HD channels the SD channel of which are there in your base pack like if you have Sony, you will get Sony HD. 2) For additional HD channels you will have to subscribe additionally (e.g. sports channel) 3) charges for multyroom will remain Rs. 160 pm if the box is SD but will go up to Rs. 200 PM for HD box.

No DTH operator is offering a scheme to switch. Perhaps it is illegal.

On the whole, we are stuck because of the deterent of the high initial cost of boxes. In other countries, CPE is available free with a one year or longer contract.

Perhaps it is time to methodically check on merits, demerits and cost of switching.

Also to be noted that TS offers 12 showcase movies free, no charge on service visits (charges for material only), extremely good support, etc. These are hidden and unmeasured factors.

Hi, just a quick and possibly rather silly question but I have been a Tata Sky HD subscriber for a few months and was also told I had a few Showcase movies free. How do I access them and see them free please? I haven't clicked on any as yet in case I am charged.

You can simply order them via regular channels:

- by sending SMS from registered mobile
- ordering it online via mytatasky.com
- talk to customer support

You can order them without any fear. You will not be charged. I have ordered 4 movies till date and was not charged. I need to order 8 more before 28-Dec. But there are no good movies.

... told I had a few Showcase movies free. How do I access them and see them free ....

One can also order thru the tsky website after logging in, no sms charges this way!

Also switch to that showcase channel / keep the set top box on before ordering or sometimes it doesnt activate if the box is switched off..

The charges would reflect as Rs 0.0/- and no worries with that.

As seen from the other posts Videocon does not have 5.1 audio out and you need a 5.1 Home theatre setup for surround sound.
