I want to buy a 3D Blu-Ray player to go with my Denon 3312, Polk RTi Speakers and Epson 3010 projector.
I also want to play Blu-Ray discs from all regions.
Which one should I buy? Can PS3 be jail breaked to play all regions Blu-ray discs?
I have afriend coming back from US so if suited then I can get it from US too.
Budget is around 12K. Can be increased if required.

Seems like this is not region free. At least the pioneer site does not say anything. Aloso it is only 110 V and does not support 220 V BDP-140 - NEW 3D-Compatible Streaming Blu-ray Disc Player | Pioneer Electronics USA

Pioneer BDP-140 is available in Chennai for around 10K (without warranty). It is NOT region-free, but is 220v.

I find Pioneer BDP LX-55 to be a better option. It can play DVD-A and SACD and comes with 2 HDMI out options (one exclusively for audio and the other for both A and V). Its around 18K here. It supports 3D. It doesn't support NTFS HDD. Only FAT and FAT-32.

I would rather suggest that you buy two nos players one region A and other region C. Most of the discs available in India are generally region free so play on the US based players too. Further if aim to get discs from abroad I would think the best quality and value would be for Region A discs.

look at samsung bd-d5500 its a very good option and its region hack is easy to do which will make it region free in seconds

Samsung BD-D5500 region code - VideoHelp.com

I own this player and had personally tested the region free hack, it works like a charm, I had a face off DVD which it didnt play initally bcoz of region crap and a bluray disk, but once I did the region hack it works great and every disk I throw in it plays...

its even in avsforums

http://www.avforums.com/forums/blu-...479678-samsung-bd-d5500-multiregion-hack.html

few cons for this player:
1) fantastic 3D performance
2) supports lots on codecs including mkv etc and can hook 1TB HDD also to play any file
3) most importantly to check in 3D players these days are ability to pass through DTH HD MA and Dolby True HD and supports 5.1 or 7.1 over HDMI (surprisingly many players dont do this but just playing 3D wont help if there is no 5.1 surround sound)
it will complement your AVR for sure...
4) looks cool, slim and touch buttons :)

cons for me:
1) it will not play bluray 3D iso or any iso...well its not meant for bluray players anyways
2) it wont play 3D files off HDD but only from bluray disks

its price is almost similar as panasonic and sony around 10-11k

try reading the hack posts specially for avsforums

From the discussions, it seems the hack is for dvd region. Did you try with region A or B blu-ray disks?

I played all blurays bought in india...there will be hack for blurays specific regions as well worth googling it for this player

Most BDs available in India are region free (ABC) Did you check bd's. Am deciding between a region free BD player or a region free BD drive (if there is any available)

As I mentioned it earlier in another htpc thread, there is no concept of region free BD drive. Using a normal BD drive in a pc the Lg bd drive mentioned retailing for around 4k in India along with a good software like TMT5 or PowerDVD player the pc with the BD drive can play all region blu-rays without any problem.

Thanks

Its not that very true other than regionfree BDs.These SW allow changing regions for 5times & then it get region locked.
Yes one can used anyDVD HD which removes the region.

Hi Spiro

Thats true it allows for a max of 5 tries to change the region code. But I thought as it is a software we can uninstall the player completely and reinstall it again to get another set of 5 tries. This should work unless it is not locked to the hardware part as is the case with windows which is locked to the motherboard. I am not sure whether this works but people with different region blu-ray discs and htpc's can try and confirm the same.

Thanks.

With just a few registry tweaks you can remove the 5 times limit !!! You even get patches for such things for specific BD drives :) It will take probably 5 minutes to unlock :)

Checked out the site but they currently don't provide enhanced firmware for the model I have, Panny BD-60
Any idea of alternate firmware mods to make this player region free?
Thanks
